Lyla?

I’m pretty sure I’ve decided on Lyla if I have a girl (I am yet to find out the gender) but I’m just wondering what other people think of the name and what they associate it with.

Also, I have no clue with boys names (there are a few I like - Elliot, Jamie and Lennon are my faves so far, but I’m not completely in love with them) so any help with that would be amazing.

Thank you.

I like it but prefer the spelling Lilah. I also like Delilah which could be shortened.

Afreshturkeyplease · 10/12/2017 17:44

I love Lyla and it would be on my list if had another dd

bnmc · 10/12/2017 17:49

I have a Lyla, she was born around the same tie as the Oasis song. She gets called Lola a lot and lots of people spell her name incorrectly but I love her name.

LoneParenting101 · 10/12/2017 17:54

Too much of a mouthful! I know someone who's daughter is called Lyla and they always get funny looks about it or called Lilo for a joke. Layla is nicer

PanannyPanoo · 10/12/2017 17:56

I know a Lilah shortened from Delilah. Gorgeous name.

JollyGiraffe · 10/12/2017 17:59

Lyla is very pretty, as is Delilah as pps have mentioned.

I like Elliot. Prefer James to Jamie personally!

How about:
Lyle (!)
Joshua
Elijah
Daniel
Owen

Jokat · 10/12/2017 18:00

I love it!

Emelene · 10/12/2017 18:03

Lovely sound, It can also be spelled Lila or Lilah so I can see that your DD would end up spelling it out a lot. Depends if that would bother you. Smile

bluesu · 10/12/2017 18:04

Very pretty but I do prefer Lila spelling.
Lyra is lovely too Smile

franktheskank · 10/12/2017 18:07

Delilah is pretty but it makes me think of Samson and Delilah Confused

ginswinger · 10/12/2017 18:13

Beautiful name, we have a Lyla in our friendship circle and she's a delightful young lady

LadyPug · 10/12/2017 23:50

Lovely name!

17caterpillars1mouse · 11/12/2017 09:47

I'm not a Lyla fan but then i don't like the similar names Paula, Leila, Lola, Leah either so it's not surprising I'm not a fan. I think I prefer Lila though it looks more legitimate to me.

Have you considered Nolan for a boy? I always think it's quite similar in style to Lennon. I quite like Lennon but dislike Len and Lenny

kijapilk · 12/12/2017 17:42

I really don’t like Delilah (or the spelling Lilah), it seems outdated/old.

The Oasis song is actually what inspired the name, I’d never heard of it before I came across the song when I was around fifteen and fell in love with it. I was wondering if anyone would mention it.

I dont really see how you consider it be a ‘mouthful’?

I love the nickname Lenny, but I hate Len. Nolan is nice but not for me I don’t think. I think I like the name Logan now too, which is a little similar, but again I’m not 100% sure if I love it.

It's what it makes your tongue do by saying it OP. Not being mean just giving my honest opinion?

rowtheboats · 13/12/2017 09:36

Much prefer the spelling Lila

rowtheboats · 13/12/2017 09:38

@LoneParenting101 it’s just two syllables, how can it be a mouthful?!

BrutusMcDogface · 13/12/2017 13:51

Love oasis, love the song and love the name! I also love Lyra and Leila Smile

BrutusMcDogface · 13/12/2017 13:52

When I see "Lila" I don't necessarily read it as lyla...to me it's leela (like the one in futurama!)

BrutusMcDogface · 13/12/2017 13:53

PS Paula is absolutely nothing like Lyla!!

Rockandrollwithit · 13/12/2017 14:36

Love it!
Makes me think of the Oasis song, which I love.

buttercup54321 · 13/12/2017 23:33

Lyla is very pretty.
I like all your boys names.
Jaydan
Jasper
Kyle
Rory
Aaron
Ellis
Isaac
Kelston

TheCarteDOrElephant · 15/12/2017 19:21

I'd think the parents had confused Lyra and Lila(h)...

BrutusMcDogface · 15/12/2017 19:26

TheCarte - Hmm

Pemba · 16/12/2017 03:37

Lyla - I like it, but like pps said, Lilah or Lila are much prettier spellings.

From your boys' names I like Jamie (or James - Jamie for short).
