Names that can be shortened to Teddy?

Just that really - love the name but not sure we can make any of the regular full name options work with our last name.

What are some different names that could be shortened to Teddy?

There aren’t many, Theodore is one I know of. Teddy could be his nickname though and unrelated to his first name, or you could put teddy in as his middle name and use it as a special name for him that only you and other family members use for him.

Yep, for a boy. Thanks for the replies. I think I'd like to have it as a nickname rather than his full name, just so he has something more formal to use if he wants to when he's big. Thank you!

You could probably get away with any of the Ed- names.

Edward, Edmund, Edwin etc

Theodore or Edward traditionally shorten to Ted/Teddy. No reason why you couldn't use one of the other 'Ed' names like Edmund, Edgar or Edwin if they appeal more.

OP, I think it's a good idea to have a more formal name for them as they grow up. I love Teddy as a name but I was surprised at how quickly it can get out grown.

My DH works with a chap called Teddy. He is lovely plus a high ranking officer in the armed forces. Use it if you like it as it is no barrier to a great career.

I wouldn’t just call him Teddy. Of course there’ll be Teddys out there with a good career, but it’s not really the point. It’s a twee name for a adult to be stuck with.

I wanted Edward shortened to Ted for dc2, (due next month). Also like Edmund.

Theodore is lovely too, but I hate Theo, (frequently pronounced Fee-oh where I live).

I have a friend who used Thomas Edwin Daniel and calls him Ted for short from the initials, would something like that work?

Teddy as in Teddy Bear? Might be cute on a toddler but I doubt a teenager would want to be called that!
