We have DS1 who is called Arthur. Looking for a name that goes well with Arthur and fits in with the classic, traditional style.

DS2 is here and we just aren't sure what to call him. What do people think of this list?

William - both love it, but it is perhaps a bit popular?
James - Again, possibly a bit popular (though I don't know of any!)
Louis - I like it a lot, pronounced Louie.
Benjamin - perhaps my least favourite.
Robert - I like that this is less common.

I like all of your choices! My favourite is James, followed closely by William.

NotAgainYoda · 28/11/2017 06:36

All nice names

My favourites are James and Louis

Ok this is good!! Warming towards using William and not worrying about popularity at all.

What do people think of Billy as a nickname for William and a sibling for Arthur? I quite like the idea of Billy as it gives a bit of flexibility if there are multiple Williams in his class!;

I have an Arthur and his brothers are Edward and Bram

Mrsknackered · 28/11/2017 16:28

William or Louis.

Think I'd go for William nn Billy, I don't know any little Billy's.

Iwantallthesleep · 28/11/2017 20:20

I think billy is seeeeeriously cuuuute!! Love it ! :)

ladybirdsaredotty · 29/11/2017 10:32

Yeah Billy is cute and he can still be Will/William etc if he prefers.

There is only 1 William in my daughter's year at school, none at the other daughter's nursery.

pipilangstrumpf · 29/11/2017 13:31

Wouldn't Will or Willy be more likely than Bill or Billy, given William begins with a W?

NameChange30 · 29/11/2017 14:23

pipi
What do you think Bill/Billy is short for?! It’s always been a common nickname for William, despite the fact that it begins with B and not W.

mumof2sarah · 29/11/2017 14:24

William or Louis both amazing names 😍

CannotEvenThink · 29/11/2017 14:27

I have an Arthur and a William! Mine are the other way round, W is the big one.

I Like Robert too. I only know one. Too close to our surname for us to use though.

MikeUniformMike · 29/11/2017 14:28

James
Not keen on Louis.
William is good but not Liam, unless you are Irish.

justcantdecidewhattocallhim · 29/11/2017 14:54

Yes Billy is an 'official' nickname for William :) it it's a bit of an odd one I suppose but it's well recognised. I'd be more than happy for him to pick Will/Willie when he's older.

Not keen on Liam, agree it's a bit Irish, which we are not.

Definitely have my top 3 now, have to see what DH thinks... He still likes Edward but I'm just not so keen.

Benjamin is lovely (but all your names are timeless classics)

KatieKookaburra26 · 29/11/2017 16:40

If you did have an Edward what would your DH want to shorten it to?

Just because if you’re going to give nicknames DH might end up liking Billy more than a nickname for Edward.

justcantdecidewhattocallhim · 29/11/2017 20:56

He'd want to go with Ed/Ted which I do like but I like it less so. I love Ted but feel it's a bit faddy and want to avoid that. I don't mind popular classic names but don't want anything that's really spiky and faddy.

My Edward is Eddie or Ned (we didn’t plan Ned and now that’s all he goes by).
I’m obviously biased towards Edward but I think William is lonely too and Billy does sound lovely with Arthur and it’s obvious you like that one more.

I know somebody who has a William with the nickname Billy - really suits him. I think it's lovely and quite uncommon/unique these days.
