Sounds like ottoman. Awful.

bridgetreilly · 24/11/2017 01:45

The male/female thing is a complete red herring. So many names have both male and female forms:
Joseph/ine
Chris/tine
Gerald/ine
Georg(e)/ina
Charl(es)/ine
Thomas/ina
Anthony/Antonia
Bernard/ette
Daniel/le
Alexand(er)/ra
And so on. Forever.

Ottoline is a lovely name. I might call her Oti for short (because I have a little crush on the Strictly pro of the same name). You could also consider Lina or Tilly.

SuperBeagle · 24/11/2017 06:57

Awful. Ottilie is terrible too.

whoareyoukidding · 24/11/2017 07:12

Love both names :)

hawkmcqueen · 24/11/2017 09:38

Autoline Insurance...

PrimusInterPares · 24/11/2017 09:40

I love Ottile

SleepingStandingUp · 24/11/2017 09:43

Ottoline sounds kind of grand but I'm really not keen

Ottilie is cute but thing it ages up well. Ottie is cute shortening or Oli.

Murine · 24/11/2017 18:41

It reminds me of otters, I like it.

octoberfarm · 24/11/2017 18:50

I like Ottoline (and think you could reasonably go either way with pronunciation, although I'd probably assume it was the "leen" version), but absolutely love Ottilie. Sweeter and softer than Ottoline, somehow.

DiegoMadonna · 24/11/2017 20:15

I'd say Otto-leen

Topseyt · 25/11/2017 02:20

I am not keen. I would have a mental picture of an otter in my mind too.

Otters are cute, but children aren't otters.

mathanxiety · 25/11/2017 02:46

It's ok, not really my cup of tea. I see it as the kind of name a Bavarian family of the 1840s would give the sixth daughter to make sure they named at least one child after their father.

Don't like Ottilie either really.

I can only imagine the horror of either name pronounced with a glottal stop.

MrsFoxPlus4 · 25/11/2017 03:29

I have a Everley Genevieve and Stella Ottilie, Ottilie was really my choice as a name after DH grandmother but he wasn’t having it. Ottoline is pretty too x

AlongStoryShort · 25/11/2017 03:33

Sounds like something you take for constipation.

Patal · 26/11/2017 19:40

Ottilie is a beautiful name

WildebeestH · 28/11/2017 19:37

I know an Ottoline. Most people use the name in full but she does occasionally get Otter as a nn. The ending is pronounced ‘lean’. It’s not a name I was very familiar with but the Ottoline I know is a lovely child which makes me love the name.

Sheitgeist · 28/11/2017 23:42

Autoline Insurance... Grin

I agree. It sounds like some sort of company or product!

Ottoline is gorgeous

SparkleMotion82 · 29/11/2017 18:27

I’d pronounce it ‘leen’

MeltingSnowflake · 01/12/2017 02:46

LOVE both of them - they're both on my list too!
Probably prefer Ottoline - Ottilie could always be her nickname

vlooby · 01/12/2017 02:53

Really like both. Would pronounce Otto-lean.
Think you'd get ottie as a nn too- so cute!
