I just love the name Ziggy and think a little girl called Ziggy would be the cutest name in the world! But you can't actually call your baby Ziggy... Can you?

I also think it’s cute as a nn. Maybe use Antigone as full name? Which is usually Tiggy but you could probably get away with Ziggy? Or maybe Tiggy is an alternative?

yasmin05 · 23/11/2017 10:44

I think it's more for boys than girls. But some boy names were ones perceived to be the same like george, alex and tony. your choice actually. I think anyone getting use to it will eventually find it cute :)

Love Zoe Ingrid with nn Ziggy!

SleepingStandingUp · 23/11/2017 10:47

Annoying eldest daughter in Home and Away, sibling to Coco but it is cute.

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 23/11/2017 11:07

I work with a man called Zig; which he carries off very well - it’s not a nickname or a shortening.

MammieBear · 23/11/2017 12:32

You might like the names Zipporah, Zoe, Zofia, Zinnia... You name Ziggy isn't the worst in the world people after all use names such as Kitty and Teddy.

dowotmakesuhappy · 23/11/2017 17:22

I know of two boys called Ziggy and Ziggey.

pnutter · 23/11/2017 17:27

My ds is Ziggy . I used it 25 years ago after meeting someone lovely called Tsigi from Hungary.

pnutter · 23/11/2017 17:31

Oh! for a girl i wouldnt but im not sure why exactly.

Dolwar · 24/11/2017 22:28

Your child will hate you for it.

RebeccaWrongDaily · 25/11/2017 00:01

i know a little Ziggy, he's 5. It really suits him. I like it on those grounds.

squoosh · 25/11/2017 02:10

No OP, you can't. I don't mind shortened names as official names but what is Ziggy even short for? I'd assume it was a boy's name. Brother called Spike.

Do as the aristos do and just use this as her 'charming' family nickname.

MissTMornings · 25/11/2017 02:26

I don't think Ziggy has to be short for anything myself. I like it. Especially for a girl. I also love Kizzy and that gets a similar "what is it short for?" reaction from people Confused

So many names are popular now that we couldn't have even imagined using 10 years ago. I'm sure little Ziggy won't be the only one of her peers with an unusual name. She may not even be the only Ziggy in her class. If you love it, use it.

squoosh · 25/11/2017 02:31

I know Kizzy as a female character from The Diddakoi. But to me Ziggy is David Bowie.

SuperBeagle · 25/11/2017 03:43

Kizzy is short for Kismet, isn't it?

xdestarx · 25/11/2017 21:25

I know a female Ziggy who is an adult now (with a university degree and in a profession!!) if you like it then go for it!

LynetteScavo · 25/11/2017 21:27

Ziggy is a boys name. It's a really brilliant name for a boy

LynetteScavo · 25/11/2017 21:29

Zola?

I'm not sure why we didn't call DD zola

EssentialHummus · 25/11/2017 21:37

I’d assume it was short for Sigmund, not sure that’s tge association you want!

RaininSummer · 25/11/2017 21:54

My dog is Ziggy. It suits him.

IamPickleRick · 25/11/2017 21:56

I think it's awesome! Go for it!

TeaAddict235 · 25/11/2017 22:14

It's a beautiful name. Very vibrant and warm. Would be well pronounced by many other mother tongue speakers. Sounds strong yet thoughtful, bold yet calm.

Such a breath of fresh air from all the Amelia's and Joshua's about. I think that I would immediately like anyone called Ziggy. It would tell me that they had a curiousness about them, and brave parents.

InRainbows · 26/11/2017 08:26

Ahh I'm loving all the fellow Ziggy name lovers out there! My OH has vitoed my shortlist of 27 girls names! The only two he likes are Billie and Ziggy. Both suit the name King so well, I've not yet posed Zoe Ingrid to him although the Ingrid might need a rethink as that was on my original girls list so maybe Zoe Imogen King?

Billie King would make me think you were a massive fan of Billie-Jean King! Ziggy would make me think you were a die-hard Bowie fan. That’s fine, but I find ‘sleb’ inspired names a bit iffy tbh, and I think some people will assume, (rightly or wrongly), that these are sleb inspired names.

There is a movie out now about Billie-Jean King, so I think her name will become more well known, if that bothers you.

Though, I once worked with a tall, red haired Diana Ross. She must be in her early thirties now. I don’t think her name especially bothered her, but it sometimes raised a smile when she introduced herself to new people as Diana Ross!
