Philippa, Matilda, or Verity?

Our baby girl is due end of January and we cannot decide on a name!

We’ve narrowed it down to three!
Philippa “Pippa”
Matilda “Tilly”
Verity

Her middle name will be Faith.
Any thoughts on the first name? :)

Matilda

Philippa seems old fashioned to me, and I really don't like Verity, sorry

Chaffinch4 · 15/11/2017 09:12

I agree with pp that Verity Faith would be a bit too much!

Phillipa Faith is ok if you like alliteration.

My vote would be for Matilda Faith.

Intercom · 15/11/2017 09:41

Philippa (Pippa) is nice and quite unusual now.

Verity Faith doesn’t work IMO as two virtue names is OTT.

I don’t like Matilda/Tilly, sorry.

LarkDescending · 15/11/2017 10:54

My vote would be for Matilda Faith, though for Matilda nns I much prefer Matty/Mattie to Tilly.

cptartapp · 15/11/2017 10:58

Philippa in its entirety. No contrived nn and definitely not ‘Tilly’. It’s dreadful.

EchidnasPhone · 15/11/2017 10:58

Matilda - I prefer the nickname Maddy like home & away 😊

MakeMisogynyAHateCrime · 15/11/2017 11:00

Philippa but not with the middle name Faith unless you add another name before to stop it being such a mouthful.

Philippa Matilda Faith would be lovely.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 15/11/2017 11:02

Philippa Verity ! 😄

Ginandplatonic · 15/11/2017 11:02

Love all of them!

Verity is my favourite, then Philippa, then Matilda.

Agree with pp though that two virtue names is a bit much.

chewiecat · 15/11/2017 11:05

Philippa!

SparkyBlue · 15/11/2017 11:09

Pippa is very popular at the moment so I would avoid it. I know at least three baby Pippas.

17caterpillars1mouse · 15/11/2017 13:01

Philippa is gorgeous and if I didn't already have a daughter with a P name I would strongly consider it. In fact I still may

Matilda is nice but they are everywhere where I live. We hear it out and about of a daily basis. I also don't really like Tilly as it seems a dogs name to me but I do like Tilda or Mattie

Verify is ok but i think it sounds very serious. I struggle to picture it on a baby or child

TonicAndTonic · 15/11/2017 17:06

Philippa is easily my favourite from your list. Matilda does go better with Faith as the middle name though. Going to disagree with some pp's and say that Tilly/Tilda are both hugely nicer than Mattie as a nn!

Don't like Verity at all, sorry, and not convinced it goes with Faith.

T00much · 16/11/2017 14:48

Verity Faith go really nice together. Trying to think what she may get called as a nickname...just in case tjere would be an annoying one - very, reeree, titty 😕 hmm

VivaLeBeaver · 16/11/2017 14:50

You do know what Pippa means in various European languages don't you? If you do and still want to go for it then fine, but be careful standing on a beach in Greece and shouting "Pippa".

Glumglowworm · 16/11/2017 14:58

Matilda

Maverick66 · 16/11/2017 15:02

Verity. No contest.

pipilangstrumpf · 16/11/2017 15:15

Verity! Lovely and not overused.

I like Philippa too but hate Pippa.

pipilangstrumpf · 16/11/2017 15:16

Please don’t shorten Verity - it’s lovely as it is!

Evelynismyspyname · 16/11/2017 15:19

Philippa Faith is too much of a mouthful with the Family sounds.

Verity Faith is ridiculous unless you are a seventeenth century Puritan. Verity Matilda would be fine, Verity and Faith are both fine separately. You just can't name your child "Truth, Faith" it's just a list of Puritan/ Christian virtues, not a name!

It's the combination that's the problem and means that if you have to have Faith as a middle name Matilda is the only viable option.

Evelynismyspyname · 16/11/2017 15:19

Just F Not Family

icantgetnosleep5 · 16/11/2017 16:25

I like pippa, but dislike Phillipa and verity, they r quite stuffy (IMO)
Love Matilda, but it's very popular these days, Really like nn Tilda.
My friend had these names on her final list and ended up going with Lois, mayb ull like tht 1 2 ?
Good luck and congrats :)

WhatKatyDidNotDo · 16/11/2017 16:26

Definitely Pippa, although I don't think Phillipa goes with Faith.

daisypond · 16/11/2017 18:50

Verity or Philippa. But I agree that Verity alongside Faith is odd. I think Philippa alongside Faith is OK, though. Pippa is rude in a variety of European languages, so that would put me off shortening Philippa. I'm not keen on Matilda.

Londonmamabychance · 16/11/2017 18:56

Don't listen to others opinions, there'll always be someone who likes one dislikes for their own reasons. Just go with what you genuinely love in your heart.

Picked a v unusual name for my DS, if I'd asked people before sure I'd got negative reactions! But now he has it, it's perfect for him and in fact lots of people comment on how cool and unusual it is. Sure the people who hate it just don't say anything, but I don't mind anyway!
