Ok, I need some perspective. We have decided to call 2 week old DS Louis. It has been my front runner overall throughout pregnancy but wasn't sure DP was going to go for it. But now he has, and we've announced his name (with a classic middle name), I'm not sure. We haven't officially registered him yet.

I think i feel like the name is a bit...bland? Lovely as i obviously think the name is. He is DC3, his sisters also have French names but they don't feel bland to me, i still love their names (first and middle combined). I just don't want to give him a name that i already maybe feel a bit disappointed by. But on the other hand, it's a nice, 'safe' name, and importantly one that me and DP can agree on. It does go well with the girls' names. I haven't raised this with DP as I'm not really sure of my feelings or what other name I'd rather go for.

We had quite a long list up until pretty recently. This included Caspian, Raphael/Rafferty (Raffy), Reuben, Benjamin and Teddy. I also love Jude and Toby but DP doesn't.

I don't really know why I'm posting. I just can't decide if this is just sleep deprivation/having a newborn and feeling a bit vulnerable, or if i will actually come to regret his name. Anyone else feel similar?

Thanks for reading the essay Smile

I wouldn’t agree that Louis is mainly pronounced as Lewis outside of France. I know quite a few boys/men with the name and they all pronounce it Lou-ee.

It’s a lovely name.
