Hamish, Ralph or Gilbert?

Four weeks to go and we're down to our final three, a mix of mine and DH's favourites. (Won't say which is mine in case I need to use this thread in evidence against himGrin). Which one do you prefer? Thanks!

Ralph by a mile!

Mcakes · 01/11/2017 23:01

Sorry to be harsh but Gilbert to me sounds drippy and Ralph is just a bit meh

wooster16 · 01/11/2017 23:05

Gilbert (Blythe!)

Ralph reminds me of Michael's willy in the Judy blume book, forever

ManInTheMoonMarigold · 01/11/2017 23:38

Hamish.

Like wooster16, my immediate though on hearing the name Ralph is that it is the name someone gives their penis in the Judy Blume book. Obviously this is a fairly dated reference, but it will amuse people of a certain age.

ChocolateCrunch · 02/11/2017 06:05

Hamish, definitely

ScarletSienna · 02/11/2017 06:14

Love Hamish.
Ralph if pn Rafe otherwise it is a penis reference (Judy Blume generation).
Gilbert I really dislike.

Not helpful but I love them all!

BernardBlacksHangover · 02/11/2017 09:55

Hamish by miles for me! It's probably my favourite boy name, but DH has vetoed (booooo)!

I really dislike Ralph, (unless it's pronounced rafe and even then he'll always have to be correcting people). Gilbert is not at all nice either to me.

holdbackonthewine · 02/11/2017 10:30

Favourite is Hamish: I’d assume some Scottish blood. I also love Gilbert because of Anne of GG.

I don’t hate Ralph (said the traditional way) but the modern Rafe has muddied the waters for me and think the child would be for ever spelling it.

If you like Raf or Raph there is Rafferty or Raphael both of which I know and are both called Raf/Raph.

Hamish wins!

holdbackonthewine · 02/11/2017 10:31

I also know an adult Hamish who is always called Hamish.

BernardBlacksHangover · 02/11/2017 10:57

Rafferty is lovely too.

Hamish or Rafferty.

hambo · 02/11/2017 10:59

Hamish 😍

MrsMarigold · 02/11/2017 11:25

Hamish - nn Hamble when little.

Not keen on Gilbert but the nn Gib is ok.

Ralph ok but you'd be forever reminding people how to pronounce it right.

pipilangstrumpf · 02/11/2017 11:34

Hamble Confused ?! Really?

I vote Ralph!

Sophronia · 02/11/2017 12:07

PhuntSox · 02/11/2017 12:23

Waytoogo · 02/11/2017 12:25

VampireLatteDrinker · 02/11/2017 12:27

Is Hamish pronounced Ham-ish or Hay-mish?
