Wilfred vs Reginald

Please help us decide between Wilfred and Reginald!!

Love the variety of nicknames with Wilfred but am really not keen on the nickname Reggie, I prefer Reg. I don’t know why I just feel it’s a bit everywhere at the moment. Plus a lady ruined it for me the other day when I heard her shout Reggie but pronounced it REJAYYY. Sad

Thanks in advance Smile

Thanks all for the helpful comments, lots to think about! Smile

I’ll never understand why people get a kick out of telling you they’re both awful, especially when it’s something so personal.

Are lots of people really calling their new baby boys Reginald? To me it's a different generation to Wilfred, which I'd see as an 'old man' type of name. Reg/Reggie are uncle names to me so wrong generational gap to be popular already. But then I guess my uncles are pretty old now Grin

Reginald as a full name seems clunky and pretty ugly to me. Reggie = either the Crays which is awful or Reggie Perrin which is super 70s in all the wrong ways (great show though). To be honest I think if you don't like Reggie then Reginald isn't going to work for you anyway as it's highly likely your baby will be called Reggie by a good number of people.

Wilfred gets my vote.

sonlypuppyfat · 26/10/2017 08:17

But you are planning on calling your lovely baby an awful name, I'm trying to save his embarrassment

WildCherryBlossom · 26/10/2017 08:19

I far prefer Wilfred

Stpancras · 26/10/2017 08:23

I have a Wilfred! It’s such a great name with loads of great nicknames - he is Wilf, Wilfie, Fred, Freddie and more.Ignore the haters

I woukd say Wilfred is becoming a lot more popular. There are three Wilf’s at nursery and we live in the ME!

BernardBlacksHangover · 26/10/2017 10:00

Wilfred by miles

BernardBlacksHangover · 26/10/2017 10:01

It is getting more popular as pp said. I know two in my small town. It's not like they're everywhere though.

Choccyhobnob · 26/10/2017 15:53

Definitely Wilfred, maybe it's because I know a couple of cuties I can picture it on a baby (they are both known as Wilf) Reginald I just can't get on board with sorry, really dislike it!

Love Wilfred! I’m not keen on Reginald and Reggie is definitely popular amongst a certain contingent where we are. (Not the contingent I belong to. Blush )

millifiori · 26/10/2017 19:48

I LOVE Wilfred. It's cute and handsome. And Wilfred Owen - what a genius and a hero.
Reginald just makes me think of Reggie Perrin and the Kray twins. Two very depressing associations.

villainousbroodmare · 26/10/2017 19:50

Both very mothballs and gout imo.

sonlypuppyfat · 26/10/2017 20:00

I have liked loads of names, I just don't understand why people pick shit names

Stpancras · 27/10/2017 19:09

But sonlypuppyfat your replies have real venom in them! I don’t like Reginald but it’s not a shit name, just a name I don’t like.

ContessaBonessa · 27/10/2017 21:55

I'd go for Reginald. Not because I particularly like but because it isn't so completely awful as Wilfred. Wilfred is a dreadfully ugly in my opinion.

Jojopugh · 27/10/2017 21:57

Reggie a shit name? It’s definitely not. It’s my nephews name and trust me he is was of the nicest little boys ever!

Oh my I thought these groups were supposed to be helpful. Not let’s all talk about shit names and who it reminds us of. If that was the case no one at all would have a name. This lady wants nice opinions not unhelpful, irrelevant ones.

Picking a name is hard enough.

Liadain · 27/10/2017 22:26

I like plenty of names, I just think both of these are godawful. Clunky and ugly sounding imo.

Gun to my head, I'd go with Reginald, because I think being called Reggie or Reg is more bearable than Wilf.

Wilfred - nn Will, Wilf, Fred, Freddie
