I am thinking about using this name for my son, I love its simplicity and the fact that it's not too common. My other options are Matthew (but not keen on Matt) or Thomas (don't love Tom). The middle name will be James. Can I get your thoughts on the name, is it likely to date? What do you imagine an Evan to be like? tia.

I like Evan. It's a very straightforward sort of name. Harmless, inoffensive, honest and suits all ages. Personally I prefer Thomas or Matthew, but if you're not a fan of Tom or Matt, you'd do well to avoid. Go for Evan.

Lots of Evans where I live.

I loved Evan but DH wasn’t keen. I think it’s a fab name and works so so well with James. I know 3 Matthews under 5, 6 Thomases but not a single Evan. I think it’s a great choice.
