Which do you prefer? Popularity doesn't bother us too much – we live outside the UK and all these names are foreign/unusual but heard of/pronounceable where we live.

Eli
Ezra
Owen
Augustus
Erik

Have you considered Fergus?

Erik

Have you considered Fergus?

No, I hate it! Haha, sorry!

Ezra and Owen

Eli is nice too

Not Augustus (although I like Gus)

Eric not Erik

NotAgainYoda · 21/10/2017 18:01

Can I suggest

Asa
Evan

scroogem · 21/10/2017 19:01

We love Asa! But it is a common word where we live so can't use it :(

Evan I find a bit plain, for some reason.

You could consider Angus or Fergus if you want a Gus.

Liadain · 23/10/2017 22:12

Eli - yep. Grand. Inoffensive.

Ezra - love this name

Owen - I'm more of a fan of Eoghan/ Eoin personally, but I get that if you've no Irish link it could be odd. It's a nice name.

Augustus - this is just awful...Augustus Gloop as others have said, and tbh even without that it's not a great name.

Erik - love Erik/Eric.

Eric is probably my favourite but Ezra is a close second.

scroogem · 23/10/2017 22:40

In our defence on Augustus, it's pronounced "Ow-goos-toos" where we live (ow as in ouch), which does make us think less of Gloop!

Anyway, I think we're bearing that more in mind for a middle name now, and we've crossed off Owen, so we're down to Eli, Ezra and Erik. With Erik and Ezra the top two contenders (although we still love Eli so who knows).

DramaAlpaca · 23/10/2017 22:42

I like Erik best, with Augustus as the middle name.

Theyhaveallbeenused2 · 23/10/2017 22:42

Eli

yikesanotherbooboo · 23/10/2017 22:42

Eric/Erik is an all time favourite of mine. ( 40 years plus) !

Rogue1234 · 23/10/2017 22:43

I love Ezra, but sadly DP hates it so it's been crossed off our shortlist.

August was on out list (also with nn Gus) but the baby's due in December so we thought it might be a bit weird!

Glumglowworm · 24/10/2017 11:35

Owen

DillyDally15 · 24/10/2017 19:53

Love Erik. Really dislike Eli. Any time I've heard a parent call 'Eli' I just think 'pretentious' and judge the parents. Awful I know! It's strange what feelings a name came ellicit!

DillyDally15 · 24/10/2017 20:02

I think Augustus is opening up the possibility of bullying at school. That name would not have gone unnoticed in London when I was growing up!

scroogem · 24/10/2017 20:52

DillyDally15 We're not in the UK and while it's still an unusual/foreign name where we live (as they all are), there is no negative connotation with it so that wouldn't be a problem.

Anyway it's most likely going to be a middle name if anything. We're split between Eli, Erik and Ezra for the first name now. (We still like Owen but it does seem a bit "plain" in our opinions)

FreeFrie · 26/10/2017 00:09

Loove Augustus (alternatively just August?), Eli is great too!

DaisyRaine90 · 26/10/2017 00:39

Ezra, Eli or Owen 😊

Mamabear4180 · 31/10/2017 14:30

Ezra or Erik. Erik has the best meaning imo but Ezra sounds better. Actually Erik is pretty cool. Both names are on my list actually.

I really like the basque name Eneko. it means 'My little one'. I'm wondering if I'll be brave enough to use it.

Not keen on Augustus or Eli. Eli feels incomplete to me and not very strong sounding.

mmmskittles · 06/11/2017 17:13

Erik

DarkestBeforeDawn · 06/11/2017 17:23

We have an Eli, so obviously biased. We loved Ari too...
