Cassiopeia

We aren't finding out the sex of our baby. Pretty settled on Orion for a boy but my other favourite constellation is Cassiopeia, she has always been there for me in the night sky when I needed her. Would this just be too flouncy a name if our baby were a girl?

I think just 'Cassie' is perfect on its own and you can tell her the lovely story of how she was named.

Ursa
Carina
Hydra

Don't like it at all.

Cassie alone is nicer.

Sophronia · 18/10/2017 00:05

How about just Cassia?

PhelanGood · 18/10/2017 12:25

Cassia is beautiful. It does bring to mind Mohammed Ali too which is good as any daughter of mine would be kickass like their mama. I will look up its meaning!

Oh wow just seen the first page - what beautiful suggestions, thanks for all these!

I adore Artemis, Demeter, Celeste... It does give me some a niggle of happiness to hear that there are Cassiopeias out there who really own the name! 'sounds like a medical condition' made me laugh out loud though haha.

On the variation of heavenly body themes I was considering Eliana - firstly it is an English version of my (deceased and beloved) dad's name, and secondly it means daughter of the sun (helios in greek) or something. Would that be better?

I like Cassiopeia. I know twins called Cassiopeia and Haley (as in the comet)

Bellatrix is also a consolation I believe. Lovely name that I am annoyed JK Rowling destroyed by making her a baddie.

Phelangood · 18/10/2017 12:41

Haley/Halley is awesome. Like the comet? Twins Cassiopeia and Orion would be my dream!

Cassia is cinnamon. It's also a brilliant name.

I know this is an old thread but @PhelanGood if you’re still on here what did you end up going for 😍 I was Googling the name Cassiopeia and your mumsnet thread came up x

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 01/08/2023 23:05

This is my ultimate guilty pleasure name! (I've loved it since hearing it in the original Battlestar Galactica as a kid, even before I knew about the Greek Myth/constellation).

Being so many syllables Cassiopeia sounds a bit braver than more well known Orion imo (whose only possible issue might be the similar spelling to Onion)- but she can always be known as Cassie/Cassia if it's too much for her. I like the "Cass- ee-oh-pay- ah" pronunciation best - but most people do say "Cass -ee- oh -pee -ah" I think.

Oh, didn't realise this was a zombie thread, apologies!

Daphnis156 · 02/08/2023 19:53

It's just too bothersome and complicated and will forever be misspelt.
