There’s a Swiss company who will fine your perfect baby name for £22K!

Would you pay this? We didn’t struggle with naming our dc, but then we only have 2, but maybe there is a market for this?

Hmm Roger MyCock didn't take too much imagination.
No bike I think it's special naming our own dc so I wouldn't pay anyone else to do it. I just gave my kids names myself and dh liked and didn't ask any opinions on it.

I can’t see there being much of a market for it myself. Surely if you’re really stuck you pick something at random from a book?

I can kind of see that the baby name service will weed out anything with dubious historical connections or unfortunate translations in other languages, but I fail to see how it would predict other names that might develop negative connections after your baby is born. My brother has the same name as one of the Queen’s son’s, but is about 6 months older. It wasn’t actually that common when he was born, but it was everywhere by the time he went to school. There were 9 of them in his tutor group at university, at which point he started using his very distinctive family middle name.

And 6 years ago I wanted to call dd Isis. I’d hope for £22K a baby naming service would have picked that emerging connection up!

22k! I could do that service for free. I've a friend who regrets calling her son the name she gave him, I gently steered her away from it with other better suggestions that conformed to her and her h's criteria but at the time she liked this trendy jaded name. Only now that her son is at playschool does she get it. I've had my ear to the ground observing name trends for 3 decades. (I'm weird). I could happily do this for people, and like a personal shopper I wouldn't push Juliet on a family who wanted a less classic name. I could give them something that would tick their boxes but escape snide derision. If anybody wants to PM me to name their bump, please go ahead.

I'd be bloody tempted if my husband doesn't start being a bit more proactive in the discussions.
