Meredith is the only name that dh and I both like so far.
I like the fact that it isn't too popular but am
surprised quite how far down it is on the ons list.
What are people's opinions please?

I like it. Edie is another option for shortening

honeysucklejasmine · 02/10/2017 23:39

I love it, but my surname starts with an M so avoided the alliteration.

strawberrypenguin · 02/10/2017 23:43

Lovely name

WorraLiberty · 02/10/2017 23:51

I only know one Meredith and he's male.

It's always struck me as a female name for some reason though.

So I like it but only for a girl.

Alisvolatpropiis · 03/10/2017 00:16

I love it. I'm generally quite against Welsh male name so being used for girls e.g. Bryn.

However Meredith (angliscised and generally female name) is pronounced differently to Meredydd (traditional Welsh, male name) so it slips under my radar in a way other similar names don't

DuggeeHugs · 03/10/2017 00:28

I love it!

Originally a Welsh name for boys, it's also been a girls name (pronounced differently) for almost a century. In the England and Wales list it has either only been used for girls since 1996 or has been given to fewer than 3 boys per year.

firawla · 03/10/2017 00:31

It’s really pretty. Does make me think of greys anatomy but I’d class that as a positive personally Grin

AnonBCofHate · 03/10/2017 00:45

For a boy or girl?

NikiBabe · 03/10/2017 00:48

Is it for a boy or a girl?

I really like it!

MissJSays · 03/10/2017 01:15

Greys anatomy!
She gets ‘Mer’ for short though. I like it! But it definitely makes me think of Meredith Grey first and foremost Smile

stevensupersquirrel · 03/10/2017 07:13

Oh I should have said - it would be for a girl.
We still have a boys name that we didn't use last time.
I've never seen Grey's Anatomy, so I didn't know that connection.

I like this name Smile I think it sounds pretty

PandorasXbox · 03/10/2017 13:23

It's ok. I like th nn Merry more than I like the full version.

mum2be2boys · 03/10/2017 15:55

Beautiful name :-)

If you love it, go for it!

LivLemler · 03/10/2017 16:15

I love it, but unfortunately DH hates it because of Grey's Anatomy. Personally, I think if a real life person survived all Meredith Grey has, and was still standing and working at the end of it, they'd be a hero. Grin

MissASays · 04/10/2017 00:31

You should watch it, it’ll destroy your life but it’s also pretty amazing.

Mclaren37 · 04/10/2017 03:16

Yup love it.

Joeybee · 04/10/2017 03:33

Meredith was number 1 on my list for a long time. I love that its not too popular. I like all the nickname potentials from it. Also Meredith sounds like a strong, adventurous girl to me.

Dustbunny1900 · 04/10/2017 04:04

Didn't know it was welsh! That makes me like it more.
Here in the US it's a name like Brenda, Miriam, Pamela, or Susan.

17caterpillars1mouse · 04/10/2017 08:48

I like Meredith but prefer on a boy (assuming your thinking girl)

Alittlepotofrosie · 04/10/2017 09:30

Love it, nn merry.

stevensupersquirrel · 04/10/2017 14:52

It's nice to hear that it's well liked here. I wonder why it isn't more commonly used?
For nn is the spelling Meri/ Merry better?
Does it sound nice with the middle name Lillian?

Gorgeous name Smile

PaintingOwls · 04/10/2017 17:12

I love it. Never heard of it until Grey's Anatomy, but think it's beautiful and am considering it for any possible future daughter.
