Who uses Mary as another word for vagina?? Confused
It's lovely, op. Ignore the naysayers.

TinselTwins · 02/10/2017 23:11

I love it

FlossyAnn · 02/10/2017 23:15

Mary was a common childhood name for vagina where I am too... or maybe we're in the same place.

AgSiopadoireachtAris · 02/10/2017 23:33

It was lula where i grew up and now i know that lula is bobo

AgSiopadoireachtAris · 02/10/2017 23:34

What about Queen Mary?
Im not Catholic and it was nearly my dd's mn

crazycatgal · 02/10/2017 23:38

It's one of my middle names and I've never really liked it. I was actually teased at school when someone found out that Mary was my middle name.

Beautiful name

IJustGotHitByADeer · 03/10/2017 10:37

I’m ttc and I love the name Mary so much I plan to use it if we have a DD (it’s the name of a relative of DH’s side)

Simple, feminine and elegant. Not too fussy Smile

Are you suggesting that "Bloody Mary" wasn't Catholic??

I like it a lot, OP, but would also wonder if you were Catholic as nowadays I think it's most commonly (but obviously not exclusively!) used by Catholic families. Don't think that matters though!

PsychoPumpkin · 03/10/2017 10:53

I love it. I quite like old fashioned names.

ImListening · 03/10/2017 10:54

I wanted it for dds name but dh vetoed it. I love it.

Maybe she means some of the other Queens called Mary (like the wife of George V)?

liquidrevolution · 03/10/2017 11:15

Was in my top ten list if girls names to go with our ridiculously long surname.

shooeghMcFee · 03/10/2017 11:22

It's elegant and timeless.

Scoleah · 03/10/2017 11:28

I’d probably have a different opinion of it if it wasn’t both my Nans names, my Nan in laws name, all my Nans friends names.

But yes, refreshing on a Child!

juliecorrigan · 03/10/2017 11:35

I agree with Hocuspocus. Some people use it to refer to their vaginas, same as Fanny and Minnie. Can't be done. I was a teacher and when a girl from another country joined us sporting the name Fanny, there was almost a riot every register time. OK, Mary's isn't that bad, but it's ruined it for me.

squoosh · 03/10/2017 11:37

Too religious for me.

notarehearsal · 03/10/2017 11:51

Absolutely one of my most favourite names. So timeless yet unusual

harrietm87 · 03/10/2017 12:55

It's a beautiful name and very underused these days. I'm considering it if I have a DD (and I'm Irish so have several relatives called Mary as first or middle name).

Tigertots · 03/10/2017 15:16

Although I prefer Marilyn & Maria, you could do much worse than Mary. Personally, I'd much rather be reincarnated as a Mary than a Madison/Maddison!!

The "Mary" character associations I like are: Captain Falconer from the under-rated Terrahawks; and my adorable musical Mary (with her Little Lamb) doll, complete with blonde ringlets & gorgeous pink gown.

steppemum · 03/10/2017 15:24

People use this name as another world for vagina which has ruined the name for me.
really? wow that is a new one on me!

It is the name of my parents generation (1940s born) all of them were Anne or Mary.
To me growing up it was the name of many of the adult women!

I don't actually like it as it feels quite catholic. Not as much as Maria, but still.

But probably due for a revival. You do realise you will be the first and in 5 years it will be top of the baby name boards?!

CakeRattleandRoll · 03/10/2017 15:53

Love it. Wanted it for DD, but it sounded too silly with our surname - v annoying!

SingingGoldfinch · 03/10/2017 21:50

My name is Mary. I had times in my teens when I thought it was an 'old lady' name and wasn't keen but that didn't last long and I love it now. I was always the only Mary in my school and it's a solid, classic name.

I also have to say I've lived 42 years with the name Mary and have never once heard it used as another name for a vagina!

Madeyemoodysmum · 03/10/2017 21:52

I like it and I don't connect it with vagina unless the term hairy Mary means a nice big bush.

HeteronormativeHaybales · 03/10/2017 21:56

Like it a lot.
