I love William, but prefer Will.

pipilangstrumpf · 30/09/2017 19:40

Billy is much better than Willy Blush

MrsHandles · 30/09/2017 19:56

Love William and the derivative Will. Billy is becoming more common as a stand alone name, but can still be associated with William. A fine choice I'm my opinion this may be my chosen name for soon to be PFB Smile

OSETmum · 30/09/2017 20:16

I like it!

MonkeyJumping · 30/09/2017 20:26

Where are you? I'm afraid to me (north west) and my DH (west Scotland) Billy is short for Billy-No-Mates and automatically makes us think of somebody with no friends....

pipilangstrumpf · 30/09/2017 20:28

I’m not keen on Bill or Billy either, but it’s nicer than Will (a verb) or Willy.

Or maybe not shorten William at all?

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 30/09/2017 20:28

William/Will is great.

I don't like Billy.

Pipi really weird that you keep popping up on these threads talking about willies.

Didactylos · 30/09/2017 20:29

not together and dont ever let him read the Mr Gum books

FoxyinherRoxy · 30/09/2017 20:31

Love the name Billy.

Earthgirlsareeasy · 30/09/2017 20:35

Love Billy. Wish I'd pushed for it more with DS, it would've suited him so much.

FindTheLightSwitchDarren · 30/09/2017 21:08

I really like it. William is a lovely name anyway and means he has options.

DiegoMadonna · 30/09/2017 21:21

William is okay, Billy is horrible.

strawberrypenguin · 30/09/2017 21:24

I have one! It really suits him and he chooses to be Billy himself now (5yo) and corrects anyone who calls him anything else.
He has another William in his year group who goes by his full name so it works from that point of view too.

early30smum · 30/09/2017 22:10

Love William. DH loved Billy as a NN for William but I wasn't so keen. Ended up using William as one of DS's middle names.

Sophronia · 01/10/2017 00:08

Love Billy short for William!

NC4now · 01/10/2017 00:11

I've got a William I love Will, and in practice use Billy Boy, Bilbo etc
At 15 he likes his name too, which I reckon is a win.

weaselwords · 01/10/2017 00:21

Billy is awesome! It's the best name in the world (I have a Billy).

mummag · 01/10/2017 00:24

I also have a Billy whose birth cert is William. But he's always been Billy. Always. Love it.

TheHandmaidsTail · 01/10/2017 00:26

I have a William and I tried to make him a Billy but there was just me and one lovely friend who kept with it.

I gave in and William he is Grin

squoosh · 01/10/2017 01:30

I like Billy but William leaves me cold.

SpareChangeDownTheSofa · 01/10/2017 01:35

MonkeyJumping, I am from the same area! If you're on your own you are "on your bill".

Also, I have an uncle Billy. He had an unfortunate accident at Xmas - lost his willy on the motor way...hey! Grin

MonkeyJumping · 01/10/2017 07:54

@SpareChangedownthesofa - hah that has brought back happy memories of a Christmas carol concert our school had - the teachers had all thought the 6 yr olds knew the words but it turns out they mostly knew the "uncle billy" version!

pilates · 01/10/2017 10:14

Very nice

LottieDoubtie · 01/10/2017 10:22

I really like it.

But idiots at school and the 'billy-no-mates' connotations give me reservations.

FoxyinherRoxy · 01/10/2017 10:42

My Billy has never had the ‘no-mates’ thing. In fact, he’s very popular. Also funny, handsome, clever, sporty, charming, opinionated and argumentative. It’s a good name, and suits him.
