Advice on boys name for DC #3...

I'm still looking for the right name to go with older siblings Margot and Archer. Our short list (this week) is;
Hamish (my fav)
Gabriel / Gabe (DH's fav)
George (safe choice everyone likes)
Or Ralph (we both like this but others seem to hate it).

Although I love Hamish, and we do have Scottish family, I don't love the idea of three children with six-letter / two-syllable names iyswim? A shorter name like George, or a longer name like Gabriel just breaks up the trio a bit?

What do you think?

From your list I really like Gabriel. George is safe, as you say, and you can't 'go wrong' with that one. Hamish is a good one too (although autocorrect really wants it to be Hampshire!). Not as fussed on Ralph.

I love Hamish though they're all good names IMO. Don't worry about the shape of the name with the siblings, they won't, his name is for life so won't always be said as a group. Two of ours have the same first initial which we were uncertain about. They're grown up now and it didn't cause any problems beyond the odd "Mr E. Holdthewine" not knowing which one. Think long-term. Go with Hamish!

Ralph is a great choice. You could also think about:

Fergus
Angus
Gus
Eric
Freddie
Thomas
Hector

Before I read the list I thought George would suit those names perfectly!!

Agree that a shorter or longer name than his siblings would work well - love all your choices though Smile

I am biased as we have a Gabriel known as Gabe who is 11 (known as Gabey the Baby when under 3 Grin) and he always gets compliments on his name. I like Ralph and recently met a Clement age 8 known as Clem.

CakeRattleandRoll · 29/09/2017 05:48

Love Hamish. I think you may be overthinking it on the 2 syllable, 6 letter thing.

ChocolateCrunch · 29/09/2017 08:12

Hamish, definitely.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 29/09/2017 09:59

❤️ Ralph, great name !

millifiori · 29/09/2017 10:06

I like them all, so not much help.

Lemondrop99 · 29/09/2017 10:08

Hamish goes really well with your others and is a great name

Sophronia · 29/09/2017 11:54

Hamish or Ralph

euanthesheepiloveyou · 29/09/2017 12:42

Gabriel is lovely. Hamish goes well. George is boring. Ralph is awful.

Chaffinch4 · 29/09/2017 19:16

Ralph is lovely and goes so well with Margot and Archer. Hamish would be good too. I don't think the 6 letter 3 syllable things matters at all.

Mrsknackered · 30/09/2017 09:24

I love Ralph!
I don't care for it when it is pronounced Rafe though.

I would've thought George pulled the short straw when his siblings have such fab names. Sorry!

pilates · 30/09/2017 09:49

Hamish or George
Gabriel is awful

Mammyloveswine · 30/09/2017 09:51

Love Gabriel and is on our list for our second son!

What about William? That goes lovely with Archer and Margot although is a bit of a safe choice like George!

Other names I think go well:
Zach
Jude
Sebastian

JinCa · 30/09/2017 17:57

I like Hamish. Agree with pp you are over thinking the two syllable thing, they go nicely together. Gabriel is lovely too.

Mclaren37 · 04/10/2017 03:28

Thanks for the ideas. I really like Fergus and Angus, although worry Angus is too similar to Archer / Archie, hence the preference for Hamish. I like Sebastian too, but we know quite a few baby Sebs.
