Help with a girls name

Marie541 · 28/09/2017 21:33

Why is choosing a girls name so difficult!

Here is the shortlist so far. Thoughts on these names. Which do people prefer/dislike. Which is your favourite?

Ideally I want something feminine, not too cutesy, and not too popular.

Shortlist is:

Violet
Keira
Lola
Lyla
Piper
Marnie
Jasmine

Help!

Thanks

It's so hard to choose isn't it op! Names always have a reference point which is what I struggle with and I always overthink too!

Of your list:

Jasmine is my favourite, it's beautiful! There is Princess Jasmine but that's not a bad reference point.

I like Violet written down but it's not as nice spoken... and it's always Willy Wonker.

Keira is lovely, I have a younger cousin with that name and always thought it was lovely. Her dad is a Star Treck fan and named her after a character on the show but I doubt anyone else ever makes that connection.

Lola is always The Kinks song to me.

Lyla is lovely but is always the Oasis song to me. We nearly shortlisted this ourselves but DH vetoed because he's from Manchester and a musician so thought it was too obvious!

I dont like Marnie because I know of one who is referred to as 'our Marnie' which up here sounds like 'are Marnie' which sounds like Armani!

Jasmine would be my choice

Jooni · 29/09/2017 08:23

Jasmine, Violet, Piper are my faves.

How about:

Orla
Willow
Clover
Iris
Eleni
Luna
Lyra
Indie
Phoebe
Calla
Autumn
Winter

Love Jasmine

Really dislike Lola and Lyla

Marie541 · 29/09/2017 09:42

I love Autumn but it sounds quite rhymy with our surname. And I love Indie/India but my husband really doesn't!

Boys names for me are so mich easier, we like tradional boys nanes and have easily picked one each time. I have quite an unual nane which i've always liked being a little different so wanted the same for my girls names. I definitely over think, and then talk myself out of names I like. I did love Jasmine last tine but didn't use it. If not for a first name I will probably have it as a middle name this time at least.

Violet - not keen and think it's a bit overused where I live
Keira - nice, though I prefer the traditional, Irish spelling. Keira is nice too though.
Lola - Ok
Lyla - I like it when short for Delilah, but not so much on its own
Piper - nice
Marnie - dislike this name. It's an unattractive sound and a bit nicknamey to my ear (though I know it is a full name on its own)
Jasmine - bit nineties? Not keen

ladybirdsaredotty · 30/09/2017 11:33

I like Violet, Jasmine, Keira and Marnie, personally.

early30smum · 30/09/2017 22:16

Love Jasmine and like Lyla and Lola. Rest are not for me.

DavetheCat2001 · 02/10/2017 21:05
