This is the only name my OH has agreed on/likes. I DO like it and it was my suggestion but the few people I have mentioned it to in passing, by saying stuff like 'for DD1 we considered Mabel' they have literally laughed out loud. This has put me off a bit. Is it too dated? Her name would be Mabel Eliza...I desperately wanted Eliza as a first name but OH isn't budging.

Thank you all, mixed bag but overall more positive than I expected- we are going for it! My daughter has an 'old lady' name too. I will change my name after this post as I'll out my daughter's name:
Evelyn Audrey
Mabel Eliza

My dog is called Mabel, and you might want to know that people find it unaccountably hard to spell - she is Mable usually. Very odd.

Charliedeservesamedal · 26/09/2017 17:17

Oh really bert? People can't pronounce Evelyn (Ev-Lyn) sometimes and my dad often chucks in an R so I guess they would have that in common🙈

I worked with an Eev-Lin (the pronunciation, not the spelling)

Charliedeservesamedal · 26/09/2017 18:30

Yes Fekko it can be pronounced both way but my DD's in pronounced Ev-Lyn

No Rs though!

Charliedeservesamedal · 26/09/2017 18:34

Lol no R-my dad sometimes spells it Everlyn...god knows why.

I think Mabel is awful - it's in the same category as Maud for me - another horror.

Eliza though is lovely. I'd go with that.

Charliedeservesamedal · 26/09/2017 18:55

Unfortunately Eliza as a first name isn't an option.

My dd is Mabel and she is beautiful. Everyone we know loves it (especially older ladies)!! Love it with Eliza too.

Fekko · 01/10/2017 21:03

It's a very 'kind' name. I imagine a Mabel to be lovely. I can't see a bad Mabel somehow.

Threeandabit · 01/10/2017 21:26
