Wow I thought Ada would be more popular! I like them both but personally prefer Freya Rose, beautiful name Smile

Threenme · 23/09/2017 20:13

Freya!

SuperBeagle · 23/09/2017 21:47

Freya Rose.

I don't like Ada. It's very harsh.

Ava is much nicer, and more similar to Freya in style.

Ada Rose

PandorasXbox · 23/09/2017 21:55

Ada is on a par with Edna, Enid, Beryl type thing. Just horrible to burden a child with such a fugly name!

tiredmumsclub · 23/09/2017 23:34

Finley and Freya too matchy?

Google image "Les Dawson Ada" to get a sense of the mental picture Ada conjures up for me (and many of my generation, I'd guess). It's a pretty name but it's always linked with Les Dawson.

Freya is really nice and while I often think having siblings with matching initials is a bit twee, that's not the case with Finley and Freya - that works well. You'll also save money on name-tags for school uniform.

tiredmumsclub · 24/09/2017 15:06

I’m obviously not of the same generation as I hadn’t heard of it Confused

Freya seems to be winning so far.

Ada doesn’t strike me as old lady or frumpy and we’d considered hyphenating it with rose which I know is a Mumsnet sin

igotyoubabe · 24/09/2017 16:52

The Les Dawson comment that keeps occurring is such an irrelevant comment. Anyone younger the 40 (im guessing) will have no idea what your talking about! Why force someone to conjure that image? It's the same with Alice.. I told DMIL I loved the name for DD and her response was 'oh no you can't call her that cos of the song 'who the eff is Alice'... SO?! No one will care about an old association from 30 years ago. They die out and make way for the next generations. BTW I love Ada, short pretty and classic Smile

scoobykenzer · 24/09/2017 16:58

Freya Rose is beautiful. I’m always unsure of the pronunciation of Ada and feel like that could be misread and like my friend Jemima is always Jemma or Jenny? Freya is a quite common name nowadays though, but the Rose really adds something else.

bridgetreilly · 24/09/2017 17:06

Well, I like Ada.

I am not, however, a fan of Rose as a middle name or a hyphenated name, but that's up to you.

takeitback · 24/09/2017 17:13

Annoys me slightly that you ask opinions between two names and then people suggest other names Hmm

I like Freya Rose Smile

luckylavender · 24/09/2017 17:39

I much prefer Ada to Freya

daisypond · 24/09/2017 20:19

The Les Dawson comments are relevant - OP is asking which of two names people prefer. People are giving reasons why they don't like the name Ada - because it has certain associations for them. If the OP wants to discount those associations because it's all too long ago, that's fine. But it's worth people explaining why they prefer one name over another, otherwise it's all completely meaningless.

tiredmumsclub · 24/09/2017 20:46

Scooby this is also a concern of mine that it would be pronounced a-da rather than aid-a

OP posts:
MikeUniformMike · 24/09/2017 20:47

Freya. Both are probably v popular.

Gwencooper81 · 24/09/2017 20:48

Freya Rose is gorgeous. Ada is a bit twee for me. Sorry.

JKR123 · 24/09/2017 20:48

Freya Rose. I'm not keen on Ada sorry. Freya Rose is lovely

igotyoubabe · 24/09/2017 21:27

You're right, it is all meaningless. No one is going to decide their child's name based on the majority opinions of strangers. You ultimately pick the name you liked the most all along anyway. Go with your gut OP!

Smoliver · 24/09/2017 21:36

I agree with igotyoubabe. If you and your partner love a name and it's non-offensive, opinions of other shouldn't matter. I initially said I liked Freya Rose but I do also like Ada, and I don't think it's a dated name at all.

Kazzawazza69 · 24/09/2017 21:41

Freya

fruitbat2008 · 24/09/2017 22:20

I know you haven't mentioned it but how about Ava Rose I think its goes really wellSmile

tiredmumsclub · 25/09/2017 00:55

Fruitbat love Ava but thought it quite popular at the minute also same concern with having an A surname
