We're down to:

Athena
Xanthe
Romilly
Delphi

Which do you like best? Do any/all of them make you think "What a bunch of pretentious twats"?

I'd go for Romilly out of those.

I like Athena but it's hard to shorten, Xanthe's a bit of a mouthful.

MammieBear · 23/09/2017 07:06

Xanthe means Golders and Athena means Wisdom, need I say more?

Athena

ChocolateCrunch · 23/09/2017 09:29

I really like Athena from your list

PsammeadPaintedTheLion · 23/09/2017 09:36

I like them, except Romilly. Is it posh? It just reminds me of Romulins from Star Trek.

Ilovewillow · 23/09/2017 09:36

I think they're all pretty and not pretentious at all. Xanthe and Romilly are my favourites.

FindTheLightSwitchDarren · 23/09/2017 11:22

I don't think Romilly is 'posh' op, if that's the only reason your dp doesn't like it. I like it less than Athena and Xanthe, as a get a girly sort of vibe from Romilly; it might be the potential shortenings - Romy, Rom, Roms, Milly.

I think I don't like Delphi much, as it sounds too much like Darcy and Dulcie to me, which aren't really my cup of tea. I prefer Delphine, but it's still nowhere near as nice as your other options.

SellFridges · 23/09/2017 11:24

I have a Romilly. She only ever gets Rom for short. We thought it would be Romy. Definitely not posh though!

Smoliver · 23/09/2017 11:25

Really like Xanthe and Athena. Both are unique and sound pretty to me.

CakeRattleandRoll · 23/09/2017 11:59

Love Xanthe. I wouldn't consider any of your names posh, I would call them imaginative and definitely preferable to choosing a name that just 'fits in' and has been top 10 for years. But I suspect my 'posh threshold' is quite high and I know my name would be considered posh by many.

Sophronia · 23/09/2017 12:26

I like Athena best

Liadain · 23/09/2017 12:34

Athena - extremely pretentious sounding

Xanthe - bit poncey sounding but my favourite of your list. Probably the one I'd like to have myself most!

Romilly - least pretentious but I cant stand it - unbearably frilly, flouncy and fussy sounding

Delphi - adventure centre in Ireland/ very pretentious name

TatianaLarina · 23/09/2017 13:41

I find all the pretentious and posh cack really tiresome.
