Freya, Orla or Cora?

Or any others along the same lines?
Surname ends in y!

Thanks!

Cora

Bananamama1213 · 12/09/2017 20:00

I love Orla.

I went to school with a bully called Freya and Cora reminds me of a character on Once Upon A Time (the evil queens mother!)

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 12/09/2017 20:04

Orla.

DramaAlpaca · 12/09/2017 20:06

Orla or Freya are both lovely names.

I don't like Cora at all.

LivLemler · 12/09/2017 20:08

I like Cora and Orla (but only if you're pronouncing the R, don't like either in non-rhotic accents!). Don't like Freya but no idea why. Nice names!

rememberpurpleronnie · 12/09/2017 20:08

Mixed views! Would Orla be the standard spelling of that name? Or would the Gaelic ? spelling of Orlaith be more traditional? Non traditional spellings are a pet hate!

Cora is lovely.

OhTheRoses · 12/09/2017 20:13

What about Laura or Clara.

MoGhileMear · 12/09/2017 20:13

I agree about Orla sounding awful in a non-rhotic accent, so it's Ola, rather than Orrrla. All three are nice, OP, but Freya seems awfully popular around here if that bothers you...?

MoGhileMear · 12/09/2017 20:14

In Ireland, Orla is far more used than Orlaith these days.

HomeFree55 · 12/09/2017 20:16

Freya is a beautiful name the little Freya I know is always complimented on it!

DuggeeHugs · 12/09/2017 20:16

Orla or Cora

Liadain · 12/09/2017 20:17

Orla is a beautiful name.
Freya is over used imo.
Cora is lovely too...does make me think of apple cores a bit but that's not too bad!

rememberpurpleronnie · 12/09/2017 20:18

Thanks for opinions- just had to google non-rhotic! Blush That wouldn't be a problem said around here, but obviously if DD was to move and her name was said weirdly that would a consideration!

In terms of Freya being popular, I do keep seeing it high up in lists, but genuinely don't know a single one despite having other children! Being overly popular would put me off...

I like Orla

Freya is over used

I knew a SUPER annoying girl at college called Cora, and my cousins horrible stinky dog is called Cora!

What about Isla?

rememberpurpleronnie · 12/09/2017 20:21

Weirdly I know loads more Isla's than Freya's but that may be a local thing!

Orla is fine in Irish, as are Orlaith and Orlagh. Personally I'd go with Orla, no need to complicate things unnecessarily!

Liadain · 12/09/2017 20:38

I teach in a primary school. I think about every second class has a Freya...a couple of them have two!

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 12/09/2017 21:09

Freya lovely but too many. However not everyone gives a hoot about popularity.
Orla. Really dislike this
Cora is gorgeous. Very classy and very underused.

NoncommittalToSparkleMotion · 12/09/2017 21:13

Omg! We have these 3 on our list too!

Sadly I'll be of no help. But you have great taste!

I'm leaning more towards Cora or Orla.

Violetparis · 12/09/2017 21:19

I like Freya, also like Lara and Tara

GiveMeTheTeaAndNobodyGetsHurt · 12/09/2017 21:20

All are lovely names, although Freya us overly popular in some areas.

If you're still looking for alternatives, have you considered Ciara? You could anglicise the spelling to Keira or Kiera, but I think the original Irish spelling is much prettier.

rememberpurpleronnie · 12/09/2017 21:37

My best friend, dogs name and middle name have all been suggested as alternatives- excellent taste! I am leaning towards Cora. DH set on Freya but he is less bothered by popularity than me. Orla is the wild card that may swing it!
