So here's a bit of a back story, myself and DP cannot agree on a name (we don't know the sex) however I have ALWAYS liked the name Maya, DP wasn't keen on it but is now coming around to the idea BUT he thinks it should be spelt Mya or Myah.

I really like it spelt Maya but should I just shut up and be thankful he's agreed on the name and let him choose the spelling?

It should be Maya, pronounced my-a

Maya has different pronunciations: May-a or Ma-ya

Myah has just one pronunciation: My-ah

Fekko · 07/09/2017 08:06

I like Moya.

Maya or Maia

grufallosfriend · 07/09/2017 11:01

I know a Mia, pronounced Mee-a

CurryInAHurry · 07/09/2017 18:51

I have never, ever heard it pronounced May-a. Only My-a.

And I have met many little girls named Maya.

Maya looks much nicer written down than Mya or Myah. And My-a is the correct pronunciation. People who pronounce is May -a are just mistaken I think. Maybe they are looking at it as a longer version of May?

MiniMaxi · 07/09/2017 20:13

I pronounce Maya as "my-ah" anyway and prefer that spelling

Ummmmgogo · 07/09/2017 20:16

have you considered Miyah? Maia?

MsPassepartout · 07/09/2017 20:41

I didn't get that Maya and Myah were supposed to be the same name until reading the OP Blush Blush

I was reading Myah as M-Yah.
Which sounds more like a pirate's shout than like a nice name like Maya Blush

WalkanTalk · 07/09/2017 21:01

We have a Maya and often get 'May-a' rather than 'My-a' which is a bit annoying.
Have you considered Maia maybe?
