As a middle name, with a very feminine surname.

*forename that was supposed to say, not surname

As a middle name it won't really matter.

If you and your partner like it and it goes with the other names why not.

Circumlocutor · 05/09/2017 00:26

I'd assume she had been given a family surname as her middle name.

JoannaS1988 · 05/09/2017 11:58

It's very popular in America - for a girl Smile

Kellyturnbull · 05/09/2017 20:16

My daughters name is Finley (first name) and we call her Finn all the time and she really suits it. I know a few girl Finley's/Finn's/Flynn's so it's being recognised as both male and female. More popular in America, Canada etc as female actually.
Also my niece has Munroe as her middle name 'Ava Munroe surname' Munroe I think is 'more common' for males but it is a family name and everyone loves it
If you love the name go for it :)

Circumlocutor · 05/09/2017 20:21

Oh no, it's going to go the way of Rory!

VodkaRevelation · 05/09/2017 20:22

I'm sure there was a female character in Home and Away back in the 90s called Finn and I used to love the name!

bridgetreilly · 05/09/2017 20:23

Finty?

nodogsinthebedroom · 05/09/2017 20:25

Cute

NameChange30 · 05/09/2017 20:25

If you were having a boy, would you give him a middle name that was mostly used for girls?

I hate this trend for giving girls masculine names. It doesn't work the other way around, boys are not given feminine names. Some classic boys' names even get dismissed for being "wet". God forbid a boy should have a name that isn't manly Hmm

Kellyturnbull · 05/09/2017 20:28

VodkaRevelation
Yes you are correct, Irene Roberts daughter, her name is Finley Roberts and she had the nickname Finn! I was a big fan 🙈 And your right early 90s
We named our daughter Finley (not because of home and away might I add 😂) but i think the names quite feminine as the first I'd ever heard was a female

expatinscotland · 05/09/2017 20:30

Why not Michael or John? What NameChange said.

expatinscotland · 05/09/2017 20:32

What's a 'feminine' surname, since it's a thing to give girls masculine names?

ASDismynormality · 05/09/2017 20:36

It's not a very inspiring boys names, definitely wouldn't use it for a girl.

Ontopofthesunset · 05/09/2017 20:51

It's a bit depressing to think that there soon won't be any names left for boys to use as they'll all have been 'sullied' by being feminised. See threads passim on Aubrey, Rory etc. I guess then people will start making up ultra-masculine names like Block and Charge.

Re Finn as a middle name, I think it will just look like a family surname which is fine if that's the feel you're going for. It isn't a very pretty name really, and makes me think of fish and Finland/Finnish.

VodkaRevelation · 07/09/2017 14:36

Probably parents who don't see girls as some sort of lower status being to compare their big strong male children to will keep the precious 'male' names going, ontop

Thanks kelly!

BertrandRussell · 07/09/2017 14:38

Only if you call her brother Susannah.

MammieBear · 07/09/2017 16:06

Suppose it "can" work don't particularly like it myself, I taught a girl called Bailey and the boy's used to constantly tell her you have a boy's name.

grufallosfriend · 07/09/2017 17:22

Finley/Finn seems popular for girls in North America. Just like Quinn.

I prefer both for boys personally.

I know a US girl called Finn. Suits her fine.

BlueberryPuffin · 07/09/2017 19:23

I like it. Other girls names I like include Mark, Richard and Gavin.

Bernard is sweetly pretty for a girl too.

stardust18 · 07/09/2017 19:26

Very sweet, really like it.
