What are your thoughts on Amabel?

I know an Amabel in her 30s. She's very beautiful with long dark hair and a great laugh so I like this name!

Imnotatypicalsausage · 13/08/2017 23:32

The main trouble with Amabel is that the 'm' physically looks exactly like two 'n's so not only will people hear it wrong (not such s big problem, lots of people have to correct their names) but it's also very difficult to read.

I might not a fan of the name anyway to be honest, it does sound made up even if it isn't. Ama on its own is nicer?

Spartak · 13/08/2017 23:35

How is it pronounced?

Amma-bell or A-Mable?

Mum2OneTeen · 13/08/2017 23:57

I thought it was a typo for Annabel too

ScarletForYa · 13/08/2017 23:59

It doesn't roll well. It's difficult to say.

scrabbler3 · 14/08/2017 00:01

I misread it as Annabel. It's pretty but the misunderstandings would bug me so I'd never use it

thebigbluedustbin · 14/08/2017 00:37

Mabel or Annabel = yes
Amabel = no

Queenofthedrivensnow · 14/08/2017 00:39

I know an Addabelle she copes fine with it

halcyondays · 14/08/2017 00:47

It might be a nice enough name but she will forever be correcting people who think it's Annabel.

Annabel is a nice name.

Sophronia · 14/08/2017 00:52

It's actually the older, original version of Annabel. I like it.

Topseyt · 14/08/2017 00:56

It may sound pretty, but I would always think it was a misspelled version of Annabel. Therefore I would consider it a mistake name and wouldn't use it.

The child would have a lifetime of explaining and correcting ahead of them.

I would say don't.

Jooni · 14/08/2017 01:48

I like it. Looks like it mightn't be the best choice though going by these responses! I'm surprised - I recognition as a name and find it prettier than Annabel, personally.

Jooni · 14/08/2017 01:48

*recognise it

twattymctwatterson · 14/08/2017 03:56

Genuinely thought it was a name you had just made up. Sorry OP

BakedBeeeen · 14/08/2017 04:51

Addabelle is even worse - sounds like annabel said with a bad cold!

SuperBeagle · 14/08/2017 05:10

Addabelle is even worse - sounds like annabel said with a bad cold!

This is exactly what I thought too! Confused

TheDowagerCuntess · 14/08/2017 05:28

There is a long running thread on Big Little Lies on here, and not one person spelt Amabella's name right!

I quite like it, surprisingly.

I prefer Amabel to Amabella, but she will always, always be correcting people.

PrincessPlod · 14/08/2017 05:58

Sounds made up and she will constantly be correcting people saying 'not Annabel it's Amabel'

insancerre · 14/08/2017 06:32

Am a bell?
No, sorry, really don't like that

BendydickCuminsnatch · 14/08/2017 07:44

Just makes me think of Amabella from Big Little Lies. Very twee little name.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 14/08/2017 11:55

It does look like a misspelling, sorry.

SeveredPixieBits · 14/08/2017 12:00

Dreadful.

Pemba · 14/08/2017 13:01

A pretty name, and I vaguely remember reading that, like a pp said, it is actually the original form of Annabel.

However you will get people thinking it's Annabel, etc. etc. Plus the ignorant (like many posters on this thread) who think you 'made it up' when if anything it's actually Annabel that's made up! (I do love Annabel too though). Is it worth the hassle, OP?

I think Mabel also originated from Amabel, although the pronunciation is different. I do find Mabel a bit frumpy and old ladyish though (perhaps because it was my own Grandma's name, who would have been over 100 now).
