But I've heard it pronounced 3) once

Celestia26 · 26/07/2017 16:55

Eye-Da. I know it's not one of your options but I think accent is a factor in this!

ScarletForYa · 26/07/2017 16:58

Ay-dah

Floggingmolly · 26/07/2017 17:35

But Ida is a different name entirely, Celestia, not an alternative pronunciation for Ada!

I know someone who pronounces it ar-dah and in some languages it would be a-dur. English pronunciation is aid-a.

Celestia26 · 26/07/2017 18:00

It's just how it is said where I'm from.

Ada is Ay-da.

Adah, which is a Biblical name, is ah-dah.

I've taught a few. It's a common name for teenage girls in my area.
Of the ones I can think of off the top of my head
2= ADD-ah
1= EH-dah
1=AAH-dah

[A-da] (as in Capital A), unless it was a European name, in which case [Ah-da]

newbian · 27/07/2017 01:21

Thanks all. It's the first three letters of a foreign name from my family's language and it sounds like ahhh-da/aw-da. Most of you are saying aid-a which means if we used "Ada" as the nickname it would constantly be mispronounced. Think we'll choose a different name.
