I'd like to find a middle name for a girl based on a family name, but I don't love any of the actual potential names. Obviously it's just the middle so could use one anyway, but I thought you lot might have some ideas for interesting variants.

Name are:
Louisa (Anne)
Pamela
Barry
Eric
Cyril
Michael

Looking for a girls name although of course some of these are male originals.

I should say that Erica is not an option.

Oh or one based on Evelyn would work too.

I'm crying - OP it's like basing names on my dad's Rank Xerox head office in 1976. By the time you find anything vaguely not City Rd office it'll be indistinguishable.

Barry, we used your name as a middle it's Benedict nn Ned 😂

HeteronormativeHaybales · 24/07/2017 21:43

Louisa is lovely! Anne is nice too.

Most of the suggestions have very little to do with the actual names.

YogaPants · 24/07/2017 21:54

Ooh, this is a tricky one.

Michael -> Michaela
Louisa Anne -> Anna, Lucy
Cyril -> Sybil
Barry -> Beryl

MasterOfDisguise · 24/07/2017 22:05

Barryetta?
Cyrilla?

Otherwise I think the names are going to be so far removed from the originals as to be worst case offensive to someone you were hoping to honour, or best case just a name that nobody gets the connection so you may as well have picked a completely different name that you loved in the 1st place

user1471547428 · 24/07/2017 22:07

Yep a few degrees of separation going on but it does give me a bit more to play with!

Maybe in another half generation the originals will come back and there will be little toddler Pamelas, Barrys and Cyrils...

I'm liking Erin for Eric, that's reasonably close and I like the name.

Interested to hear any more too!

Lyric anagram of Cyril

bridgetreilly · 26/07/2017 00:19

Louisa (Anne): Louis, Ouisa, Annie, Annette, Nan, Nancy, Annabel, Bella, Belinda, Linda, Darren...

Pamela: Pam, Spam, Mel, Melissa, Lissa, Alyssa, Sarah...

Barry: Bart, Bartholomew, Mew, Kitty...

Eric: Rick, Ricky, Dicky, Tricky...

Cyril: Rilla, Marilla, Anne...

Michael: Gabriel, Raphael, Leonardo, Michelangelo...

I may not be taking this completely seriously, OP, sorry.

bridgetreilly · 26/07/2017 00:21

Oh, I missed Evelyn.

Evelyn: Lynn, Lynette, Netta, Eve, Eden, Dennis...

user1471547428 · 26/07/2017 17:10

Loving Dennis for Evelyn...

We're thinking Erin as it's pretty close to Eric (my grandfather) and my husband is Irish so it should make both families happy!

I'd go with Louisa as a middle name.
Combining two or more names could give:
Louisela (Louise and Pamela)
Barrel (Barry and Michael)
Erril
PamicLouisa (Anne)
Pamela
Barry
Eric
Cyril
Michael
Parry
Larry
Loril
Ericanne

...

Louisa - Lovisa/Lova (Swedish form, abreviation), Loulou/Lulu

Pamela - Paloma (Spanish, means dove), or Lina or Tamar (mean palm tree in Hebrew)

Barry - Barbara, Malina (means raspberry in ?Polish or Serbian?)

Eric - Erica, or Heather which is an plant classified as Erica)

Cyril - Cecilia is the only one I can think of, with the "s" sound though it means Lord, from Greek (hard K) so Kira (or Cyra/Kyra) or the female form Cora/Corinne or Corrinna, possibly also Coralie, which mean maiden.

Michael - Michaela, Michelle, Shelly, Micha, Mischa, Micheline, or based on the Archangel status St Michael has, Angela, Seraphina, Evangeline, Evangelina, Raffaella (another archangel), Gabriella, Gabrielle.
