The name Nahla v Nala

My DD is officially called Nala but since lion king references and people pronouncing it naylar we decided to change the spelling to nahla but not officially yet (waiting for them name change form to come through)

We have been spelling it Nahla for about six months now. The pronunciation doesn't differ between the two names, just the spelling.

MIL says she much prefers Nala but other people have said Nahla is better. What's your opinion?

I think I marginally prefer Nahla. It looks more 'finished'.

Pretty name, either way!

Celestia26 · 19/07/2017 13:50

Much prefer Nahla. Like previous poster said, it just feels finished and like a name in it's own right. Also, people are much more likely to pronounce it correctly.

Celestia26 · 19/07/2017 13:52

Also, I would pronounce them differently based on the spelling, although this might be my accent.....
Nahla = Nar-la
Nala = Na-la

I prefer Nahla too. Lovely name

Jooni · 19/07/2017 14:26

Nahla

Nowthereistwo · 19/07/2017 14:32

I really like it. But I would pronounce as previous poster:

Nahla = Nar-la
Nala = Na-la

So as long as that's how you want it

I love this name. I also love the Lion King Grin

I do prefer the spelling Nahla

Kiaa · 19/07/2017 15:30

Nahla very pretty name 😀

BossyBitch · 19/07/2017 15:35

I'd have read Nahla as the Arabic نحلة (pronounced NA-HHHH-la, with that impossible to pronounce hard H sound).

It's a prettier look than Nala, though.

cragsandmountains · 19/07/2017 15:39

I prefer Nala. To me, that would be pronounced "Narla" and Nahla would be "Nah Lah". Probs just me, though. Would never have thought "Naylar", that's just people being weird Grin

bridgetreilly · 19/07/2017 15:56

I prefer Nala. It would never have occurred to me to pronounce that nay-la, though.

MiniMaxi · 19/07/2017 16:00

I like Nahla

TheSeaTheSkyTheSeaTheSkyyyyyy · 19/07/2017 16:09

I prefer Nala. And it would never have occurred to me to pronounce it nay-la, either (it seems quite ridiculous, in fact).

firawla · 19/07/2017 19:43

When I see nahla I pronounce it with the Arabic Ha as someone else said too, it makes me think of the Arabic word for bee written like that. If you want it said like the lion king way I would find Nala easier?

MrsCaecilius · 19/07/2017 19:52

I like Nahla and would also pronounce it the Arabic way - Nah-La

Pretty!
