Elizabeth drama

Dh and I are looking for a middle name, something derived from Elizabeth to honour his late grandmother (Betty). We both like Eliza but it rhymes with our surname and we aren't that mean. To make life harder, DSis middle name is Elizabeth and mine is Beth so can't won't use them.

We've not narrowed down a first name yet but likely to be along the lines of Lydia/Chloe/Natasha/Holly type style.

Help please!

I love, love Betty!

I know a girl called Ellis and it seems like a nice name.

If your grandmother was Betty, calling your child something else doesn't honour her at all! Betty is a very cute middle name. Don't overthink this!

Bette (but pronounced as Betty)

people don't generally say their middle name out loud - I'd agree with PP that you're overthinking this.

I know your culture says naming baby after living relative is no no, but you're naming baby after late grandmother, not living sister.
Otherwise names can t get reused for several generations!

I quite like Betty too, DH isnt overly convinced but we've got time. We agreed we wouldn't settle on a name until she's born but he's got his work cut out to convince me of something other than my favourite.

A lesser-known Welsh diminutive is Betsan.

Bethany isn't a form of Elizabeth. It's a place name.

Eh?

One of my friends gave her dd the same middle name as her.

One of my friends gave her dd her first name as a middle name.

One of my friends gave their dd their middle name as their first name.

Why cant you just use Elizabeth?

It goes on a passport, birth certificate but other than that who cares?

ExplodedCloud · 22/07/2017 01:53

Lisette
Betsan
Bethany

Bobbiepin · 22/07/2017 21:11

Niki in our culture its considered bad luck/bad taste to name a baby after someone who is still living. I was given the name Beth after an aunt that died before I was born not as another derivative of Elizabeth.

It does limit our choices somewhat. There are some great suggestions though, thank you everyone.
