Ivy for a Christmas baby?

Hi all, I'm due at Christmas time and love the name Ivy, however I'm not sure if a Christmas baby called Ivy is a bit of an eye roller?
What are your thoughts? X

People won't really make that much of a connection it's quite a popular name anyway. I think it's fine

EekThreek · 17/07/2017 21:22

I have a Christmas baby and on my MN bus we had a Holly and Noel. For 51 weeks of the year you forget they were born in December, so there isn't really an eye rolly connection, don't worry!

It's a lovely name, go for it Smile

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 17/07/2017 22:52

Ivy, is lovely, any time of year, go with it ! 😄

Mumoftheark · 17/07/2017 22:54

Thanks ladies :)

I don't associate Ivy with Christmas at all.

And it's a very popular name at the moment, so that weakens any connection even further.

I like the name.

I think it's nice to honour the season. My baby was born in January but if she had been early she would probably be called Celyn (Welsh for Holly).

kathrynelizabeth3005 · 18/07/2017 01:07

My grandmother was born on Christmas Day 1922 and is called Ivy! It's a beautiful name so go for it! If I'm ever lucky enough to have a DD, I will be using it 😊

Sienna9522 · 18/07/2017 01:13

If I ever have another DD, Ivy will be her name. It's lovely Smile

ilivebythesea · 18/07/2017 06:34

Lovely name and I don't think people will say, "so I guess you were a Christmas baby" It's a year-round name I would say.

Mumoftheark · 18/07/2017 06:39

Woo hoo it's officially going on the list.

I didn't realise it was becoming popular, I have a 5 & 3 year old and am yet to come across any. Is it Evie Ava Eva popular?

I know a baby Ivy and agree that it's getting v popular.
It's a nice name though OP - stick it on the list!

friedegs · 18/07/2017 09:02

I know of two newborn Ivys. Cute and def popular

SuperBeagle · 18/07/2017 09:17

I'm in NSW, Aus, but Ivy was the 15th most popular name in 2016. Evie was 13th and Ava was 4th. So it's definitely up there where I live, at least.

Wooooo · 18/07/2017 10:04

Beautiful name!

Yogagirl123 · 18/07/2017 10:07

Perfect, a lovely name

Lemondrop99 · 18/07/2017 12:44

Go for it. I think it's increased in popularity as have many flower names (Iris, Violet etc) but I don't think Ivy is overly (Ava) popular

emesis · 18/07/2017 12:52

Ivy is to Ava what Olive is to Olivia. On trend but a less common choice.

Great name and I don't think the Christmas connection is eye-rolly. I think it's sweet.

MikeUniformMike · 18/07/2017 15:15

Celyn is a boy's name. Holly is so much nicer.

Christmas names could include Natalie/Natasha.

Monkeypuzzle32 · 18/07/2017 15:18

I love it, I'm due 20th December and it's on my list, although I didn't even think of the connection with Christmas !

UsernameInvalid66 · 18/07/2017 18:16

I like the name Ivy, and I think it should be more popular given that Holly is pretty mainstream. I've never met a little one, I've met a couple of quite old ones and a lady who would now be in her 40s.

Mike, Celyn is absolutely not a boys name. I know a 25 year old and a 2 year old Celyn, both female.

Dancetherain · 18/07/2017 22:58

Its a beautiful name. I never clocked the christmas connection when i had my ivy (very early jan). I only realised when her first christmas came around!

It is getting more popular but we've only come across 2 others at various toddler groups and shes the only ivy in her nursery.

Go for it its lovely

MikeUniformMike · 19/07/2017 13:37

Lovely, maybe you do but it is a boy's name. It doesn't mean that it can't be given to girls.
