Suggestions for boy's names....

Baby is due in three weeks and we've been set on the name Lewis for quite some time now but as the due date nears I'm starting to think we should have a back up plan 'just in case' but the problem is that I can't think of anything else I like.

We like names that aren't 'out there', that aren't pretentious or too 'try hard' but we also don't want a name that is overly common or popular.

What names are you considering for your boys?? I need inspiration Grin

If I were to have another boy, he would be Matthew, Thomas or Daniel.

Maybe jakob.

Other names on our list:
Matthew
Marcus
Seth
Benjamin
Jamie

Lewis is quite common for 8 to 10 year olds I seem to find, so it might be less common for newborns today?

I know I shouldn't say this, but as a teacher, all the Lewises I've taught have been... challenging, so it's hard to shake that! Wink

Theo?

Lawrence?

My husband is a teacher so I completely understand Smile

Trying to name DS1 was a nightmare as any name I suggested was usually followed by, "Oh I teach a boy called that and he's a nightmare...." so the name would be off the table Grin

I really like Owen - what do you need a back up for? In case he doesn't suit Lewis?

I like Lewis it's lovely - xx

I like Louis, but not Lewis. Its strange how a spelling can change your opinion on a name

Thanks everyone for your suggestions.

I mentioned to DH about having a back up plan but he didn't seem to interested in the idea.

He chose the name for DS1 because I had no idea what to call him and even when he was born I wasn't particularly fond of the name but went along with it because there was just nothing else I really liked.

I have a feeling the same thing is going to happen this time too Smile

I like the idea of spelling it Luis as opppsed to Lewis but then I'd worry that upon seeing it written down people would wrongly think his name is Louis and we'd accidentally forgotten the 'o' Grin

Lewis is a really fab and unusual name. Hope you can persuade your husband...

BikeRunSki · 20/07/2017 07:21

Lewis far from unusual amongst my children's peers! (West Yorks primary school aged).

Writerwannabe83 · 20/07/2017 08:42

It's not common where we are (Midlands way) hence why DH really likes it.

I did suggest some traditional names to DH like Daniel and Thomas but he says they're too boring Hmm

I was watching an old episode of OBEM last night and it featured a 10 year old boy who was called Lewis and he was absolutely lovely, really, really pleasant, funny and generally delightful and so it's made me go back in the favour of calling the baby Lewis Grin Grin

Lewis is unusual Hmm

ConstanceCraving · 20/07/2017 16:40

Lewis is pretty weak sounding to me. Not much substance.
