for a boy

OP posts:

You know when you read a light romantic novel (aka chick lit), and the heroine is about to get married to Bloke A (husband material but dull) when she meets Bloke B (rugged and manly), and you just know that she has to break up with Bloke A because she is meant to be with Bloke B.

Bloke A usually has a wet name like Neville or Nigel and Bloke B has a strong name like Finn or Hamish.

TurquoiseOwl · 14/07/2017 16:18

Oh, I see, so you don't want your son to be husband material, but instead manly? Right, got it Hmm

What a load of crap

Lemondrop99 · 14/07/2017 17:24

The only Julian I ever knew went by Jules and was a super hot surfer/snowboarder. Nothing 'wet' about him.

Both names are nice, but I really like Lucian

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 14/07/2017 19:00

Lucian.
Is it Loo-see-an or Loo-shee-an

villainousbroodmare · 14/07/2017 19:03

Both unfortunately remind me of a damp lace-trimmed hankie.

CPtart · 14/07/2017 19:29

Yet another one thinking Julian is a 'wet' name. So that's several of us on a reasonably short thread.
Lucian makes me think of Lucifer so don't like that either.
Both rather effeminate IMO.

MeganChips · 14/07/2017 19:33

Julian. Every one I have ever known (although. It many to be fair) have been incredibly charming and handsome.

Wilhelminaaa · 14/07/2017 19:36

Julian.

Lucian makes me think of the kid from Cramp Twins. And Lucius Malfoy.

auntym · 14/07/2017 20:23

Julian (nn Jules). Lucien is too close to Lucifer for me, not a good association.

grufallosfriend · 14/07/2017 20:47

Neville is wet and Hamish dry/strong? Really Hmm

EmmyInTheSticks · 14/07/2017 20:55

Julian - it has more old school 50's charm than Lucian. Joules is also a good nickname.

AlrightBabby · 15/07/2017 00:12

Lucian will always remind me of the Liver Birds, but I'm an old git 😜

AlrightBabby · 15/07/2017 00:15

. ^.

This, but not sure why!

Flofferton · 15/07/2017 00:17

Neville is wet and Hamish dry/strong?

Yes.

StitchesInTime · 15/07/2017 00:19

Julian

EllenJanethickerknickers · 15/07/2017 00:25

I knew four brothers called Julian, Lucian, Simon and Crispin. They were all pretty good looking and very posh. I prefer the name Julian, but it was Lucian I fancied! Blush

Flofferton · 15/07/2017 00:28

Did you ever get your mitts on posh Lucian?

leghoul · 15/07/2017 00:33

I love these names. In particular Julian.
I like Jude too.

MollyHuaCha · 15/07/2017 08:36

Was Crispin shortened to Crisp?

EllenJanethickerknickers · 15/07/2017 21:35

Never got Lucian and they called Crispin, Crispy!

ScarletSienna · 15/07/2017 21:52

Like Julian and Jules. Dislike Lucian. I don't see how either are 'wet' but I have noticed this is thrown about a lot on name threads recently.

Pinkandgreenandblue · 16/07/2017 23:32

I considered Lucien, in fact loved it but had negative reactions. Quite a few people said it reminded them of Lucifer which to my mind is ridiculous as people don't say that about Lucy/Lucille/Lucinda etc but it was enough to put me off.

numbmum83 · 17/07/2017 00:11

My Dads middle name is Julian and he hates it .

MollyHuaCha · 17/07/2017 09:26

But of a harsh comment seeing as OP has only given two names (which she obviously likes a lot) and asked which one is preferred... Hmm

GirlcalledJames · 17/07/2017 11:24

Julian or Julius.
