If we like Alexander what other names would we like?

We have a short one syllable surname and feel that classic names work well/best with it but are open to others that just have a classic feel to them rather than actually being classic or traditional names (classic in case you missed it there! Grin). I like long names as you can see because our surname is so short, but shorter ones are ok too.

Any suggestions for both boys and girls welcome!

Sugarpie I actually love Nathaniel, Dominic and Christopher, but really dislike Nate & Chris (or even worse, Christy!) for short. I love Nathan but there seems to be so many Nathan's and Ethan's these last couple of years?

Anotherday I love James/Jamie but unfortunately dh works in emergency services with a raucous very close crew and one of the others is James with our last name, we'd never hear the end of who the "real" father is jokes!!

Thanks Smile

My husband's name has been mentioned and his nieces and nephew and some friend's children so they are all out, also the feminine version of my husband's name. You don't realise how many are used up around you until you ask strangers!

Our surname is just awkward with a lot of them for reasons that are too outing but definitely some to mention to dh and see. I really like Dominic, Louise, love Nathaniel but hate Nate, and I like a lot of others mentioned but I know people will shorten them and the shortened versions are awful with our surname. I love Olivia (Olive was mentioned), Clara and Hannah, they're fab and I hadn't thought of them Smile

I have a Nathan who has never once been called Nate. Don't hear many Nathan's around here at all.

MikeUniformMike · 10/07/2017 19:14

I know a Nathan and he get Nat or Nathe. Nathananiel would get Nath or Nat.

Foggymist · 10/07/2017 19:20

It's Nathaniel that gets Nate not Nathan ime, Nathan is definitely a contender for me even though I know about 3 under 5! Unfortunately I can't report back any time soon on what we go with as we won't find out the gender beforehand Smile

I taught a Nathanial but everyone always called him Natty or Nat. It suited him.
I like Dom (well, Dominic), Sebastian and Maximillion
That said, I LOVE Alexander. I would definitely go with that
