For a baby girl...
Bluebelle (my favourite...nn belle)
Carlotta (DH's favourite...nn Lotta or Lottie)
Ashling (both like this...nn Asha)

Maybe go to the park and call out your names and see how you feel?
Personally I wouldn't choose them, But apart from Bluebell I think they are ok and everyone around you would get used to your choice. After all, this is your baby and if you love the name then go for it

Spam88 · 08/07/2017 06:07

Asha is pretty, but as a name in its own right rather than a nickname.

Zampa · 08/07/2017 06:08

I think they're all fine but definitely drop the e on Bluebell and go for the spelling Aisling.

I definitely think of NNs when naming children, especially if there's a risk of people shortening a name to something I don't like.

petitesassygirl · 08/07/2017 06:15

Bluebell is a fabulous name! You may get a lot of people who are fairly traditional on here, please don't be swayed, you are absolutely right, rose, daisy, etc are used so why the hell not!
Also to the poster who said she would be side eyed etc... Hopefully she will grow up to ignore petty twunts!

friedegs · 08/07/2017 06:42

Another votenfor Bluebell! Gorgeous and more interesting than all the Isabelles and Amelias and Ellas....

I also love Carlotta - I know a little one nn Lotte.

HeteronormativeHaybales · 08/07/2017 06:48

Carlotta is nice. I would shorten it to Lotta.
Aisling - spelt correctly! - is nice.
Bluebell(e), just no.

Soslowmo · 08/07/2017 06:48

Carlotta is lovely. Love the nn Lotta too.

HeteronormativeHaybales · 08/07/2017 06:49

I must say, though, that I don't think I've ever seen a shortlist with less of a defined 'vibe' - they're three very, very different names (or 'names' in Bluebelle's case). Either you and your dh have very divergent tastes or you don't really know what you like and need to spend some more time thinking.

RickOShay · 08/07/2017 07:05

Love Bluebelle. I also like both nns, Blue and Belle. I don't see it as much different to other flower names. Like Carlotta, but not so keen on Aisling.

Squishedstrawberry4 · 08/07/2017 07:19

I like bluebell.

Carlotta is ok but it sounds like a 1980's to soap name

Squishedstrawberry4 · 08/07/2017 07:20

Tv

Gunpowder · 08/07/2017 07:27

I like Bluebell! Not with extra e though.

flumpybear · 08/07/2017 07:31

Aisling is the nicest - sorry but bluebell really is a cow type of name, along with buttercup

user1466690252 · 08/07/2017 07:35

carlotta. beautiful, can havr a lovely nn and I've never met another carlotta

demirose87 · 08/07/2017 07:35

I really don't like carlotta, it sounds like car lot. Aisling is ok. Don't like bluebell either.

Splandy · 08/07/2017 07:44

I don't really like aisling. I like bluebell and prefer it with the 'e'. Carlotta I think is a bit full on, it sounds kind of 80s and tacky to me. But it's not my baby! I think it's odd to say that somebody would laugh or 'side eye' if she was called bluebelle. I know quite a few children with unusual names and I've never thought further than 'oh, that's unusual' when I've heard it. I then accept it, because it's their name, and don't give it another moment's thought. Names that other people tell you are strange very quickly sound normal when they're in constant use.

ginnystonic · 08/07/2017 07:56

Not Bluebell, it's really not nice, she will be teased endlessly.

shambolicgreenfox · 08/07/2017 07:57

Thank you all so much! Lots to consider. And the poster who said we don't have a type or style of name is spot on!! Eclectic taste! I get the strong dislike for Bluebell (there seems to be an 80:20 split!!) but there are MUCH weirder names out there & I like that there's the potential for her to ROCK IT & OWN IT!! As well as to drop the Blue & just go by Bell(e!) if she wants.

Tilapia · 08/07/2017 07:58

I like Carlotta / Lotta / Lottie

grasspigeons · 08/07/2017 08:05

Well I love all of them but think aisling is a better spelling.
Bluebelle is my favourite of your suggestions. I like Blue and Belle and they are a lovely flower.

UsedToBeAPaxmanFan · 08/07/2017 08:13

grasspigeon the flower is spelled bluebell not Bluebelle which is why it would be weird to stick an e on the end.

OP if you go with Bluebell, I would suggest you establish the shortening as Belle rather than Blue early on. That way she has an unusual name and a more usual name as options when she's older.

AdalindSchade · 08/07/2017 08:19

Aisling
Carlotta (or just Lotta)
Belle (not bluebell)

Mymumsanighthorse · 08/07/2017 08:23

I like Bluebell, without the random extra e. As for the people who claim that some flower names are 'established' and therefore acceptable- my dsis is a Poppy in her early 40's. People genuinely considered it an outrageous name in the 70's/80's. But people get over it and then everyone names their kid that and you are the only grown up with that name. Which I quite like.

ConstanceCraving · 08/07/2017 08:24

Carlotta is lovely as is Aisling.

Not Bluebelle sorry.

greendale17 · 08/07/2017 08:26

Bluebelle - awful
Carlotta sounds like a made up name. Also sounds Italian
Aishling- don't like either
