Is Felix the new Oscar?

When DD was born 7 years ago, the 'in' boys names around here were Oscar and Louis type names.

Expecting DC3 now, and I really like Felix, but that strikes me as the same type of name.

It's a trendy name isn't it? 🙁

Popularity doesn't bother me per week, as DS has a top 3 name (he's 2), but I'd rather avoid a faddy name if I can!

What else might I like?

I think jasper might be the new Oscar. Haven't heard any Felixstowe around my way yet.

SleepFreeZone · 07/07/2017 14:45

Felixs 😂

CosmoClock · 07/07/2017 14:48

The two have always gone together in my mind. I was thinking of names 15 years ago and neither name would have been an unusual choice at the time. My DC1 has a friend called both Felix and Oscar.

EekThreek · 07/07/2017 15:10

I don't know any Felixs round here, but there are a couple of Jaspers.

Oscar was on our list when we were expecting DD, and I remember feeling really glad afterwards when she was a girl!

I might have to keep thinking...

Felix, Oscar, Jasper - they're all the same type of name, in the same category for me. Lovely but very popular in the under 10 age group.

Thatextrainch · 07/07/2017 16:06

I met a very cute Felix today. It's the only one I've ever met.

I think Oscar became very popular because a baby was named it on Eastenders.

I know of two cats called Felix and one boy. The cats are lovely.

ABCFamily · 07/07/2017 17:55

I know a baby Felix and a baby Jasper. But I also know that Jasper was also shortlisted for two people who ended up having girls.

Judging by my Facebook timeline, I think Elliot/Elliott and Freddie/Frederick might be of the same ilk.

I'm seeing a lot of Casper/Kasper which I put in the same class as Oscar, Felix and Jasper. I think that might be the new "cool" name

grufallosfriend · 07/07/2017 22:05

I'm hearing quite a few babies called Felix, Hugo, Quentin and Sebastian

Mclaren37 · 08/07/2017 07:08

TBH I don't think Felix is the new anything. To me it's of the same era as Oscar, everyone seemed to be calling their sons Felix around 7-10 years ago. (Jasper, Casper and Hugo feel slightly more recent to me). That said, they're all nice names so I don't think it really matters.

DownUdderer · 08/07/2017 07:16

My friend used Felix 2 years ago, I'd say it's in a category with Arlo

dementedma · 08/07/2017 07:51

Depends where you live I supose. You wouldn't find a Jasper, Quentin or Felix round here for love nor money! I do know a baby Archie though.

CherriesInTheSnow · 08/07/2017 07:54

Felix isn't in the top 100, even the 2017 one that bounty have recently published.

I checked because my LO is going to be Felix. Considering it is now my sons name I wish my phone would stop bloody autocorrecting it to Felixstowe Hmm

CherriesInTheSnow · 08/07/2017 07:59

Have just double checked that Felix is not in the top 10 or 30 "Hipster" names either thank god Blush

EekThreek · 08/07/2017 09:11

See, 7-10 years ago, I'd say about a quarter of the boys we met were Oscar or Louis. There were 2 of each at DD's nursery. But I've hardly come across them since. I know 2 or 3 felixs now, but dotted around the country. Don't think there are any here yet.

I don't think I need to worry though - suggested it to DH this morning and his face was not impressed 😕

There was a lot of Reubens about 4 years ago which seems to have calmed down now.

In my rural middle class village school there are some interesting names in my son's class. Off the top of my head - Hunter, Shakira and Neveah. I know the last one is heaven spelt backwards. There are a few Jacks but otherwise everyone seems to have very individual names.
