What do you think of when you hear the name Sam for a boy?

I know lots of female Sams (Samantha) and a few male Sams (Samuel and Samson). It's ok perhaps a little dull as I know so many.

Love Sam.

Hate Samuel..

HeteronormativeHaybales · 07/07/2017 23:07

I think Samuel/Sam peaked in popularity about 10 or 15 years ago and has fallen into a degree of disuse now, so seems quite unusual for baboes being born these days.

Like it a lot, and also love Samuel.

Mclaren37 · 08/07/2017 07:25

It's fine, quite nice. Doesn't really elicit any response from me. Definitely safe, as pp's have said.

BikeRunSki · 08/07/2017 07:51

I think of my clever, handsome, musical and sporty nearly 9 year old and his beautiful eyes (Also blonde).

He is Samuel on his BC, and has always been known as Sam. He has started to use Samuel himself recently.

Borntoflyinfirst · 08/07/2017 08:25

I love it. However there are 3 Sam/Samuels in my 10 year olds class. Still love it though and would have picked it if I didn't have a close (female) relative called Sam.

Bluebellsandsunflowers · 08/07/2017 08:27

I like it a lot. It makes me think of a sweet and kind little boy.

UsernameInvalid66 · 18/07/2017 18:14

It sounds friendly, cheerful and active to me - the sort of child who would always be rushing around, having fun.

midsomermurderess · 18/07/2017 20:20

I really like it too, it's my brother's name. I think it's strong and I also like rather plain names.

Wenchelda · 18/07/2017 20:32

I love it - it's "normal" without being too popular. I know a 6yr old Sam and he is the only one in his primary school with the name.

user1498911470 · 18/07/2017 20:35

Love it. I know some great Sams who are good fun and just the right amount of cheeky.

thisismadness77 · 18/07/2017 20:43

Love it

LexieLulu · 18/07/2017 21:15

My little boy was going to be Sam or Luke, my husband moaned too much about Samuel or Sam so I just went for Luke. If I had a second I would have Sam. I love it

HillaryWinshaw · 18/07/2017 21:18

Inoffensive but dull. In my mind, the male equivalent of Jane, on the dullness scale.

LoniceraJaponica · 18/07/2017 21:24

DD has a friend called Sam. He is half Italian and dark haired. He is a nice lad. It might be popular and dull for some posters on here, but I don't know any other Sams the same age as DD. I guess it wasn't as popular 18 years ago.

elio · 18/07/2017 22:01

My lovely dh :-) handsome, kind, athletic and cheeky. Don't like Samuel but love Sam. If dh wasn't Sam it would have been on ours boys name list.

TheBiscuitStrikesBack · 18/07/2017 22:05

I have a Sam. He's lovely.

DramaInPyjamas · 18/07/2017 22:07

I like Sam, but I love Samuel

NutellaCookie · 18/07/2017 22:10

Love it. DD was going be Samuel (Sam) had she been a boy.

WaitrosePigeon · 18/07/2017 22:12

I want to fall asleep when I hear the name Sam.

CoolCarrie · 18/07/2017 22:13

Lovely name, one of my favourite people is called Sam

wtffgs · 18/07/2017 22:25

I like Sam very much. Lovely sunny name Smile

HeyRoly · 18/07/2017 22:31

It's perfectly nice and decent and inoffensive but really, really dull.

Tanfastic · 18/07/2017 22:33

I have a nine year old Samuel who gets called Sam by everyone but me. Although it sometimes sneaks out Grin.

I like it but I prefer Samuel.
