Hamish - love

Prefer Gil to Gilbert.

Hamish definitely (you do not have to be even vaguely Scottish). The only other one I like is Ralph (not Rafe).

Hamish is becoming a bit of a 'comic' cliche name in Scotland. Ok for a Labrador but maybe not a child. Duncan, Cameron, Innes, Archie maybe?

Love Gilbert as Gil or Wilfred as Wilf.
Ralph ok too.

Ralph is lovely. Strong and cool.

Gilbert and Wilfred are ugly and Hamish doesn't sound manly or strong imo.

Wilfred and Hamish are two of my absolute favourite boy names. I think I slightly prefer Hamish, but then I love Wilf so much as a shortening. Either of them!

Love them all! Ralf is top of my boy list for this pg so don't use that ;)

I'd go with Gilbert.
