Baby boy due soon. Do any of these names work in the U.K.? If so, which one?

Florin
Florin
Florian
Florent

... or any similar thoughts?? Doesn't need to be Flor... but I do like them and we're really struggling for names other than these that we both like.

Thanks v much.

I adore Florian. I knew a lovely German one so I've always loved the name

MrsBadger · 05/07/2017 12:06

All will work (ie are obvious how to pronounce and spell)
Laurence?

Machine1234 · 05/07/2017 12:33

I like the name Florian.

When DS was born we wanted to give him a similar sounding name (Sofian). But everyone told us it's sounds a bit 'wussy' and soft for a boy's name. I still love the name and wish I didn't listen to others.

Sophronia · 05/07/2017 16:10

I love Florian

SnowWhite33 · 05/07/2017 16:11

Floris?

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 05/07/2017 17:29

Love Florian.

HemlockStarglimmer · 05/07/2017 21:02

I know two Florians. Both great guys.

OrgyofSausages · 05/07/2017 21:13

Florian is lovely x

SuperBeagle · 05/07/2017 21:21

Florian is the only one I'm familiar with

Eolian · 05/07/2017 21:25

Florian is lovely. It's also the name of a minor character in Harry Potter (Florian Fortescue)! I like all your alternatives too. I hardly ever comment on baby name threads but your names are fab!

Not 'florin' as it is the name of a defunct currency. Wink

Florian is nice.

grufallosfriend · 06/07/2017 06:42

Florent is lovely.

Florian is also nice.

(Laurence is a girls name, the boys version is Laurent)

KoalaDownUnder · 06/07/2017 06:46

Florian.

And yes to florin being a coin, so don't use that.

Knockknockmeover · 06/07/2017 09:32

Thanks for your comments. When I looked at old threads (here or elsewhere) the consensus seemed to be that it was too girly.

Good to see that's changed - or perhaps just different audience. Either way I feel a bit more confident about Florian/Florent as a definite maybe!

Not too Girly at all Florian is lovely you could always give a strong name like Magnus as a middle name.

TheLegendOfBeans · 06/07/2017 11:37

I like Florian, it's really Germanic x

Nonibaloni · 06/07/2017 11:44

There's someone on here who has a wealth of amazing F names for boys. I can't remember her username but she hopefully she'll turn up. I long for twins florian and fabien.

BertrandRussell · 06/07/2017 11:48

Probably not Florin because it!s a coin or Florent because it's too close to Florence. But Florian is fine

bridgetreilly · 06/07/2017 21:38

Florian is the only one I recognise as a name (and it's a very old-fashioned, pretty much fallen out of use name). If I saw Florim I'd assume it was spelled wrong. Florent I'd assume was a foreign name. And, as someone else said, a florin is a coin.
