31 weeks now and we still can't make our minds up.

Vera (DH likes, I'm cool towards.)
Sophia
Mia
Ada
Rosa (I love, DH hates.)

(If they sound like an odd selection it's because we need a name that'll work in Russian, Hebrew and here in the UK.) Surname is Mikhailova.

Also, how popular is Sophia now? Is she likely to be one of 3/4 in her class?

I love Rosa and Ada.

Vera is really harsh and I don't like it.

Mia and Sophia are pretty but overused.

Sorry, I'm not a lot of help!

glitterlips1 · 05/07/2017 10:28

For me it would be Mia or Rosa, prefer Rose though. I like Ada as a middle name. Dislike Vera. I find Sofia boring.

glitterlips1 · 05/07/2017 10:28

Sophia*

MaybeNextTime · 05/07/2017 10:31

Ada! Beautiful name- congrats op Flowers

MammieBear · 05/07/2017 10:49

Ada and Mia for me out of your list how about Ava?

Montsti · 05/07/2017 11:00

Rosa is beautiful!

How about Ava, Isla, Lyra, Luna or Mila?

EssentialHummus · 05/07/2017 11:22

Ooh, interesting that Vera isn't getting much of a positive reaction - I thought it'd be more mixed.

mam and montsti I worry that Ava/Eva are too popular around here (London) as I seem to hear them everywhere. I rather like Mila from your list though.

Thanks everyone!

I love Vera, but I'm old and it reminds of the lovely Vera Duckworth from
Coronation Street.

Re the rest, I've always though Mia is a beautiful name.

EssentialHummus · 05/07/2017 11:48

hear I think of Vera Lynn!

My favourites are Rosa and Mia. I think Sophia is as popular as Ava/Eva in a lot of areas if that's a concern.

jumpybluespider · 05/07/2017 14:03

Love Rosa. It's beautiful. Really strongly dislike Vera for some reason. Mia & Sophia are pretty but a bit overused so...meh. Ada's OK but nowhere near as nice as Rosa.

wetpebbles · 05/07/2017 14:04

Rosa is beautiful

Bear2014 · 05/07/2017 14:08

Ada and Rosa both lovely. I read somewhere that if you combine both spellings Sophia and Sofia, it's the most popular girl's name in the world. That would definitely put me off.

MyBeautifulLaunderette2 · 05/07/2017 14:11

Mia is lovely!

EssentialHummus · 05/07/2017 14:25

That puts me off too bear.

hmm, all pretty popular.

go for Miriam. Works in all those languages and is lovely (I'm biased)

FfionFlorist · 05/07/2017 15:24

Rosa is lovely, and goes well with your surname, followed by Mia and Sophia. Sorry but not keen on Ada or Vera.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 05/07/2017 17:34

Miriam is lovely.
Miriam Rosa.

Joinourclub · 05/07/2017 17:55

Rosa and Ada are my faves.
Love the suggestion of Miriam.

Sophronia · 05/07/2017 20:48

Vera is my favourite by far! I also like Rosa and Ada.

Composteleana · 05/07/2017 20:59

Love Ada (excellent association with Ada Lovelace!) and Rosa is pretty too. I've had 1 Sophia in every class for the last few years so yes, pretty popular. It's a nice name though. Mia is also very popular - I'm not mad on it though.

What about:

Ida
Anna/ Ana
Lina / Lena
Lila
Cara
Valentina
Zara

Sophia's great (would have been ds1's name), albeit popular. How about Natalia, Talia for short? Anna as per a pp fab too and very underused these days. And Miriam is a great suggestion.

Mia will date, and also not keen on Vera.

Bubblesoup · 07/07/2017 13:42

I really dislike Vera, sorry! And the others seem a bit boring as theu are so popular!

Zara
Alexis
Anna
Anouska
Sabina
Eleni
Mara
Marianne ❤ I adore this name!
Katya
Katria
Sasha

I may be biased as I have a Mia Rose (+1 more middle name) but I think both names are beautiful - including the Rosa variation - and compliment your surname. While on Mumsnet it is often said that Mia is very popular, I only know of one other who was the sister of a girl I attended primary school with and would be 22/23 now, although of course this varies depending on region. In contrast I know of several named Sophia and, while not Ada, several named Ava/Eva/Evie.
Nevertheless, you should opt for the name you love despite popularity as "popularity" is very subjective in any given situation and your daughter will soon become the only Vera/Ada/Rosa/Mia/Sophia you associate the name with :)
