Dc2 is due any day.

We have a Thomas Benedict (always Tom) and if it's a girl we like Tessa Elizabeth (to be known as Tess).

Boys names have been really hard! We were really starting to panic as we just don't adore anything. Middle name will be George.

Two names we are reasonably ok with are:

Alexander (but we don't love any nn, prob Alex for short)
Lawrence (Lawrie for nn)

Potentials but with reservations:
Christopher (nn kit, I hate Chris as a shortening, hence risky)
Toby

Thoughts and ratings would be very much appreciated!

I've always liked Alex and think Alexander George is lovely. Also like Toby, wouldn't go for Christopher if you hate Chris as I think that nn is unavoidable. Lawrie is not my cup of tea.

Elbi · 30/06/2017 20:48

Love your existing dcs' names Smile I like Alexander best out of your potentials.

bluechameleon · 30/06/2017 20:49

I'm not keen on Lawrence and agree that you should steer clear of Christopher if you hate Chris. I really like Toby, and Alexander is nice too.

minipie · 30/06/2017 21:00

That was my boy shortlist! I also liked Dominic and Leo.

I think I like Toby best

MrsPicklesonSmythe · 30/06/2017 21:00

I have an Alexander (always Alex) and I love it

PratStick · 30/06/2017 21:01

Everything but Toby is great Tobias is nice though.

Christoph is quite good if you can get it to stick as a nn

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 30/06/2017 21:30

I like Lawrence, with Ren as a nick name.
Tom and Ren.
Jonathan (Jon).

Sophronia · 30/06/2017 21:53

I like Alexander George or Lawrence George

Yika · 30/06/2017 21:58

I like Lawrence but prefer it spelt Laurence (Laurie). Alexander is lovely but exceedingly popular - that would put me off.

A couple of ideas:
Alistair
Gabriel

MitzyLeFrouf · 30/06/2017 21:59

I love the name Alex.

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 30/06/2017 21:59

Lawrence reminds me of an old man's name, and I'm rather bored of all the Alexander's.

Personally I like Toby of those ones.

lovehoney69 · 30/06/2017 22:01

Alexander George sounds lovely!

NuffSaidSam · 30/06/2017 22:45

I like Alexander best. It goes well with Thomas and is nice both as it is and shortened to Alex/Ali or even Xander.

Christopher is also ok, a bit bland.

I love Tobias, not that keen on Toby. Also, if you have a third and get a Tess....Tom, Toby and Tess is ridiculous! Even Tom and Toby is a bit much imo.

I don't like Lawrence.

George is nice. Could you not use that as a first name?

bridgetreilly · 30/06/2017 22:46

Toby
Alexander (I like Xander as a shortened form)
Christopher (Kit is great. Also Kester?)
Lawrence.

DramaAlpaca · 30/06/2017 23:12

I like Lawrence, Christopher, Alexander & Toby in that order.

Buntysoven · 01/07/2017 02:16

I like just Laurie because I know a lovely man (30s) with this name. Not as stuffy as Lawrence. So many babies/toddlers here called Alexander its become a bit dull

Cavender · 01/07/2017 02:34

I have always thought that Kit was an amazing name.

17caterpillars1mouse · 01/07/2017 08:15

Alexander is nice but Alexander George is a bit dull, especially next to Thomas Benedict which is so handsome

I really like Lawrence and Lawrie. That would be my choice as although George is quite common, Lawrence is unexpected

I'm regards to Christopher I think you could easily avoid Chris as Kit is becoming the prefered nn for many. I really like it but prefer Crispin

I find Toby a bit meh. But I adore Tobias. I would use Tobias in a heart bear of I knew I could avoid Tony

Ginlinessisnexttogodliness · 01/07/2017 11:50

Our son is Kit so obviously love that. I really don't like Crispin.
Alexander and Lawrence are also lovely names. Toby is just dull and a pet's name to me

HeteronormativeHaybales · 01/07/2017 11:56

Go for Laurence (with a U) Alexander. Lovely distinguished name. Tom and Laurie works well.

HeteronormativeHaybales · 01/07/2017 11:58

Christopher is also great but I agree on the shortenings and not keen on Kit tbh.

Toby, meh (I actually hate 'meh' and never use it but I will make an exception for Toby as it is a perfect descriptor!).

HeteronormativeHaybales · 01/07/2017 11:59

The potential of Tom, Toby and Tess is indeed another reason to avoid Toby. It'd be like Sooty, Sweep and Soo.

BertrandRussell · 01/07/2017 12:00

Lawrence from your list.

Patrick?

anniebambammie · 01/07/2017 14:12

I think Chris will be completely unavoidable unfortunately! I like Alexander and Toby

kmini · 01/07/2017 17:36

Thank you all for your comments. George is my DH name, so can't use it as a first name. Patrick is lovely suggestion, but we can't use it either.
