Husband hates a name that I love

That's it really. The name is Sadie. I think it's gorgeous, he thinks it's truly awful. We clearly won't be using it now but would love to hear your thoughts, surely I can't be the only one who loves it!

I think it's lovely too, but as you say, you obviously can't use a name your husband hates. Maybe you could get a girl cat at some point...? Wink

DramaAlpaca · 29/06/2017 13:12

Sorry, but I agree with your DH. It's not my style at all.

I think it's getting quite popular and I often see it suggested on here, so you're definitely not the only one.

It's a real shame that you don't get to use a name you love though.

robinia · 29/06/2017 13:13

It's one of those names that fits a certain generation and will take a while to become current I think.

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 29/06/2017 13:16

I like it! It's not my favourite name but I do like it.

XJerseyGirlX · 29/06/2017 13:18

Its a lovely name, but yes if your husband really doesn't like it you cant us it.

Falconhoof1 · 29/06/2017 13:22

I'm with your DH on this one. Isn't it short for Sarah? Lots of old ladies called Sadie where I live!

Scrumpernickel · 29/06/2017 13:30

It's one of those retro names like Mabel or Fred that I just don't really like.

Sophronia · 29/06/2017 13:44

Not keen. It makes me think of the world "sadist".

Mrsknackered · 29/06/2017 13:46

I love it.
Used to babysit for a Sadie, her siblings were Liberty and Elspeth if that's any help. Gorgeous family!

jumpybluespider · 29/06/2017 13:56

I love it! It was in my top 3 baby girl names but it was vetoed by my husband - even for our girl puppy!! 🤣

AmyGardner · 29/06/2017 14:04

I'm with your DH, it's very drippy and wet sounding.

greendale17 · 29/06/2017 14:05

I don't like it either

Epipgab · 29/06/2017 14:07

I don't think of it as drippy, it's a bit hard sounding if anything.

BastardGoDarkly · 29/06/2017 14:08

Ah its gutting when you love a name and its vetoed isn't it?

Our ds has his name because it was literally the only one we agreed on.

Fwiw I'm not keen on Sadie.

Do you have a short list of names you do agree on?

Bluntness100 · 29/06/2017 14:11

I think it's not very feminine and I always try to think would I want to be called it and in this instance no i wouldn't.

GinasGirl · 29/06/2017 14:14

I love it! I have an aunt called Sadie and it really suits her. I wanted it, but my husband said no. Luckily we had sons Grin

PlayingSardines · 29/06/2017 15:22

Im with DH. I'm afraid Sadie is total Fag Ash Lil territory for me. A sort of nicotine-stained Bet Lynch.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 29/06/2017 20:02

Sorry OP, not keen either. Are there any other names that you both like ?
Could you use Sadie for a middle name ?

daisypond · 29/06/2017 20:10

I like Sadie. I don't see it as an old lady name at all. I associate it with teenagers, just because of the CBBC TV series Sadie J about a teenage girl - it was on a few years ago.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 29/06/2017 20:13

Absolutely love it

Whatwankeryisthis · 29/06/2017 20:14

Absolutley adore it, I have a late Aunt called Sadie and seriously considered it for DC2 who turned out to be a boy so close but no cigar.

SeveredPixieBits · 29/06/2017 20:15

I really like it. It reminds me of eccentric old ladies - in a good way!

SuperBeagle · 29/06/2017 20:39

Sadie is one of my favourites.

DH felt like that about the name Anna, which I loved.

anniebambammie · 29/06/2017 23:52

Thanks the replies, an interesting mixed bag! Which I suppose happens for every name really. Absolutely wouldn't push to use it, we have a few other names we liked, just wanted to get a sense of whether it was universally hated given his strong reaction!
"Sadist" made me laugh- I have never thought of that!! Grin
