Currently pregnant with dc2. Nothing is set in stone re names yet, but ATM we are thinking of either Penny / Nellie (Penelope on bc) for a girl, Kit (Christopher on bc) or Peter for a boy.

Thoughts and suggestions welcome! We like classic names, leaning towards those popular in the 80s / 90s. No particular reason for that, they just seem to be the names we like. I'm not generally a fan of anything but the longer / full name on bc, though there are some exceptions.

Other girl names we like are Katie (one of the exceptions^^), Juliet and Niamh. We're sort of stuck for boys except the two I've already mentioned.

Kit makes me think of Wayne Rooney now as he used it for his 3rd son. I think it might become quite popular.

If you like Peter, how about Peta or Petra for a girl?

Oh no, that could make it quite trendy couldn't it?

Penelope is also the name of one of the Kardashian's daughters, which I think has made it more trendy. Definitely something to consider.

Peta is nice, but I have a rhotic accent, so it sounds like I'm impersonating an English person saying Peter when I say it. I'm not keen on Petra. Thank you though.

I have a Philippa (Pippa ) and Peter is my son's middle name, so I vote for those two.

Penny and Kit

Kit and Pippa. I've got a Pippa. It's great. She's the only one we know(child) and yet it's not too out there...

PippaFawcett · 23/06/2017 20:05

froggers, best name!

Fallinggracefully · 23/06/2017 20:36

I also have a Pippa and she would've been Peter if she were a boy. I also like Penny and Kit. You have excellent taste OP.

All the Pennys I can think of are lovely apart from one bad Penny. I'm not mad about the name but it is ageless and if it is good enough for Penelope Keith and Penelope Wilton...

Pippa. Only know one. She's nice. I know another 3 Philippas - One Flip and 2 Phils and they're all great. Pip is a cute nn but it does make me think of Philippa Rose Archer. Ugh! Famous other Pippas - Pippa doll, Pippa Heywood ...

Christopher known as Kit is OK. Might be called Kitty. Prefer Chris.
Peter. Love it.

Love Pippa and love Nellie but I would go with Helena nn Nellie

I like both Christopher nn Kit and Peter but will go with Kit because I don't like Pete

Have you considered Pip for a boy full name Peregrine or Philip

Decaffstilltastesweird · 24/06/2017 21:17

We have a Helen and an Ellie in the close extended family already. It would be odd to name a baby after these family members, which I think rules out Helen, Helena, Eleanor, Ellen etc. Also, DH hates Eleanor for some reason Confused.

I like Pip for a boy, but I'm not mad about Philip or Peregrine. I know too many of the former, which makes it seem a bit meh. Peregrine seems a little stuffy to me for some reason.

Kit is lovely and with Christopher as his proper name, he has lots of other options too.

I'm not a huge fan of either Pippa or Penny, but I'd go with Penelope, because I think Nell would be a lovely name.

Alittlepotofrosie · 25/06/2017 16:37

Penny and Peter. Kit reminds me of football kit or pe kit and christopher is an old fashioned and clunky name with too many religious connotations.
