Her brother is Noah.

We're just really struggling! Noah and Maddie? I think it sounds good.

Is it okay?

I think it's fine

Nonameyet1 · 20/06/2017 20:02

Yes if you want that to be her name. When she's older people might say is that short for anything but she only has to say no so not the biggest problem.

Piglet2010 · 20/06/2017 20:28

Thank you both Smile

If that's what you want to do, of course it's fine.

I wouldn't personally, but it's not my baby.

If it were me I'd put Madeline or Madeleine on the birth certificate so that in future she can choose to use the more formal version of she prefers. For instance she may get a particular traditional professional job where she'd want to use a more formal version of her name, even if she goes by Maddie to family/friends.

If you want Maddie to be her name then put that on the birth certificate. You don't need to use a long version

SnickersWasAHorse · 20/06/2017 20:33

My given name is a shortened version of a very common name. When I was named the short version that I have was never used as a given name.

It has never caused me a problem. I very occasionally get asked 'is that short for x or y?' as it can be for a couple of names. (Like Beth can be short for Bethan, Bethany and Elizabeth.)

grufallosfriend · 20/06/2017 21:15

I wouldn't but then I dislike Maddie.

curlii103 · 21/06/2017 22:09

In s profession full of Charlie's Freddie etc I doubt anyone will ever notice. It's only because our generation is uptight and things nn are not for work

buttercup54321 · 21/06/2017 23:48

I always think McCann when I hear Maddie.

Piglet2010 · 21/06/2017 23:54

@buttercup54321 she wasn't even a Maddie! Also, do you think of Jones when you hear April?

If you like it then go for it! Though I do know someone who legally changed her name from Liz to Elizabeth because she wanted something that sounded less like a nickname, so I do think it'll be nice to have that choice.

kittytom · 22/06/2017 01:08

I am biased but can't think why anyone wouldn't want the long name on the BC, it is so beautiful. But it is fine of course - you can call a child what you like!
