Lana

What do we think to Lana? I already have a Vera and think it has a similar vintage vibe. I like names that are easy to spell and pronounce, are kind of punchy but obviously feminine, and that work across languages and cultures.

Other options are Rita, Frida and Astrid.

  • Lana. Lana. Lana. LAAAANNA!
  • WHAT?
  • Danger zone.
Amethistle · 09/06/2017 02:02

Lana del Rey.

Know an Alana 'Lana'.

Pretty name, but grown up enough too imo.

Dixiestamp · 09/06/2017 04:47

I nearly chose Alana, but went with Lara. There are a few Lanas around here- I like it.

Lana and Astrid are very hipster. Both beautiful names.

SuperBeagle · 09/06/2017 05:39

I like Lana.

I don't think anyone will actually notice or point out the 'anal' thing. How often do we notice what someone's name is backwards unless it's a palindrome?

Dislike Astrid.

leannejade · 09/06/2017 06:44

I like it, but Vera and Lana sound too similar to me. LOVE Astrid, was on my list if I was having a little girl.

TinyRick Grin

Re how often do you actually notice what a name spells backwards...I actually think kids ALWAYS go through a stage of doing this. I know my friends and I all did!

Lovely me, though.

Strummerville · 09/06/2017 07:17

Lovely NAME. Not lovely me Hmm

(I am, though...)

ShinyGirl · 09/06/2017 07:21

No. The anal thing is unavoidable.

Starfairylights · 09/06/2017 07:24

I love Lana. My daughter has a similar name

n0ne · 09/06/2017 07:25

Oo, getting a lot of love for Lana! It was actually suggested by DD, wasn't even on my radar before.

I'm not concerned about the anal thing - we don't live in an English-speaking country so it'll very rarely come up. Not getting how Lana sounds too similar to Vera. Both 2 syllables ending in A, but that's the only similarity?

I know a Lana who is married to an Alan and all I can think about when I see them is how both of their names are an anagram of anal!!!!

OwlDoll · 09/06/2017 09:47

My mother who would have been 75 this year was called Vera. Her sister was Maureen. Lana is much nicerSmile

TinyRick · 09/06/2017 16:28

Ooh. Alanna/h is very nice

harderandharder2breathe · 09/06/2017 18:26

i think it's lovely, I only know one and she's about 7 and a sweet little girl

Paperclipmover · 09/06/2017 19:14

I love it and I don't thinking sounds similar to Vera. I know a few but it's not one of the popular ones; a few adults and different ages of children.

I also like the names Nora and Mable.

Paperclipmover · 09/06/2017 19:18

The problem with the name Alana is that "she is only a-Lana but I am The Lana." But maybe that problem can go in the anal category.

Izzyathome · 10/06/2017 03:16

It's nice enough but Frida and Astrid are amaaazing!

mammmamia · 10/06/2017 03:28

I really like Lana. Maybe spell it Laana if the anal thing bothers you? Although I don't like that so much. Just go for it OP.

Hairq · 12/06/2017 16:04

I love Lana but was put off by the anal thing.

I love the other names on your list too. Rita is really underused at the moment.

n0ne · 12/06/2017 20:25

DH has vetoed Rita (a farmer's wife Hmm) and Frida (too Germanic). Astrid is a very common name here but I still like it as it's unusual in the UK. Lana he would consider.

After discussion, the following have also been added to the list:

Flora
Sylvia
Odile
Clara
Phaedra
Lydia
Elsa
Frederika

Any thoughts?

I'm not keen on any of your new namesBlushSorry.

Lana is beautiful so pick that & forget the rest. We had Alannah on our list which I prefer but only just. Congrats on the pregnancy OP
