Would Hugo and Cuba clash?

Do you think the names Hugo and Cuba go well together? Every time I say them together out loud they sound almost 'clunky' and difficult to say together! I'm not sure if it is just me that thrills this. Other possible boys names that we have are Gabriel, Tristan, Isaiah and Sasha.

Which name have you already used Hugo or Cuba?

blahthisistoohard · 07/06/2017 22:43

Is Cuba really a name? I don't think they clash but I have to admit when I glanced at your title I thought maybe you meant politically and were on the wrong forum!

talkingtofrank · 07/06/2017 22:44

I have a Hugo already, I probably should have said that, sorry!

Huga and Cubo.

Sounds like it will be easily mixed about!!

ijustwannadance · 07/06/2017 22:45

Hugo is very posh boy.
Cuba is more chilled Caribbean.

Hollie96x · 07/06/2017 22:46

I think the names go well together but I also like Gabriel and TristanSmile was going to call my little one Tristan if I had a boy but I had a girl Smile

Papyrus · 07/06/2017 22:47

Cuba's not my cup of tea, but from your list I think Hugo and Gabriel are lovely and go well together.

Biggreygoose · 07/06/2017 22:48

I thought this was a weird time warp political thread. #grumbles#

As you were.

HeyCat · 07/06/2017 22:52

They clash a bit - both the sounds together and the fact that they're such different styles of name.

Sophronia · 07/06/2017 23:15

I think they clash a bit. Hugo goes better with Gabriel or Tristan.

QuestionableMouse · 07/06/2017 23:16

Cuba sounds like a dog's name.

BertrandRussell · 07/06/2017 23:16

Why on earth Cuba?

CatsInKilts · 07/06/2017 23:24

Kuba (with a 'k') is becoming more common now in some areas. It's the shortened version of Jakub/Jacob.

At my DC's school, there's one in nearly every year group (high numbers of children with EAL), so no one would think it was all that unusual.

weaselscanfly · 07/06/2017 23:34

Hugo & Gabriel much better together.
Hugo & Cuba seem very different & don't really go that well...

Lemondrop99 · 07/06/2017 23:38

Sounds too tongue twistery to me. Also feels like two very different styles of name (if that matters)

Tristan is a great name though and goes brilliantly with Hugo.

YogiYoni · 07/06/2017 23:40

they don't clash exactly, but together they sound very communist.

MrsJamesMathews · 07/06/2017 23:41

Isn't it a bit unfair to give one DS a perfectly nice, normal name and name the other one after a communist Caribbean island? Confused

Why would you do that to him? Why?

And yes, they do sound odder together.

I keep wanting to say Hugo and Cubo.

ijustwannadance · 07/06/2017 23:42

Surely Jake is short for Jacob. Cuba from Jacob sounds odd.Confused

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 08/06/2017 00:34

Huba and Cugo
Cuga and Hubo
Cubo and Huga.
Very easily entwined and easy to mix up.
Hugo and Gabriel
Or
Hugo and Tristan
are the nicest sibset

Lucked · 08/06/2017 00:38

The only Cuba I am aware of is the American actor, the Hugo's I have met have been mildly posh English Home Counties types. Though I do not think it really matters.

SuperBeagle · 08/06/2017 00:56

Cuba cheese.

It's a weird name. I don't understand naming your child after a country, but it's particularly weird the country is a bit of a hellhole.

Notmyrealname85 · 08/06/2017 01:33

Is this themed? Seems rather political - Hugo (like Chavez) and Cuba...

Anyway in my head I keep saying Huba. They're too similar!

disastrousflapjack · 08/06/2017 14:57

I find the combo a bit tongue twistery to say together. I love Hugo but unsure whether Cuba complements it.

Westfacing · 08/06/2017 15:10

My last two Ocado drivers were Cuba and Rio Smile

BendydickCuminsnatch · 08/06/2017 16:16

Yes v tongue twistery but also just makes me think of Hugo Chavez.
