I really love Samantha and my grandad is Samuel so it's honoring too, but I'm guessing people find it dated? I see it as a bit of a classic and imagine some would find it a refreshing choice?

Thoughts and do you know any under 10s named Samantha?

Maybe Sammy as a nn for when small

I love it but have a close family member who has the name Samantha. She was Sammy when young and is now Sam. She was born at the tale end of the 60's. I always wished it was my name!

FathomsDeepAndFallingFurther · 05/06/2017 21:04

I actually quite like it. It's certainly aged better than Gemma, Karen, Helen, Claire etc.

Squishedstrawberry4 · 05/06/2017 21:05

I feel like I shouldn't like it but I really do!

UsernameInvalid66 · 05/06/2017 21:54

I know one who is 7 or 8 - she's usually called Sammy. The next youngest one I know is about 20.

ThisIsNotARealAvo · 05/06/2017 21:59

DD aged 7 has a classmate called samantha.

JennyOnAPlate · 05/06/2017 22:01

The only Samantha's I know are my age (mid/late thirties)

I don't think I like it, sorry.

Calyrical · 05/06/2017 22:04

I'm not a fan: it's there with Donna, Lisa, Amanda, Kelly, Kerry for me.

MissTakesOurMaid · 05/06/2017 22:06

I know two Samantha's, both age group 11-18. Never seen it as dated! One insists on going by Samantha, the other goes by Sam/Sammi!

RockyBird · 05/06/2017 22:11

DD who is 12 has a friend called Samantha (Sam). It was DH's top pick for a girl along with Kelly.

IHeartKingThistle · 05/06/2017 22:16

I quite like it. There's a little girl from Lithuania in DS' class called Samanta - I don't think my DC know any Samanthas!

grufallosfriend · 06/06/2017 07:03

Samantha is beautiful and underused these days! Makes a refreshing change from all the cutesy names like Ellie, Evie, Izzy, . Go for it!

Thatextrainch · 06/06/2017 08:04

I seriously considered it for my 2 year old but I don't like any of the shortenings and my family are incapable of using full names if more than 2 syllables.

RuthB4 · 07/06/2017 09:30

I really like it!

Flowerdew2 · 07/06/2017 09:32

Very dated, it's a no from me.

Abetes · 07/06/2017 09:35

I'm not a big fan - I always think of Samantha Fox so it seems very Page 3 to me.

allegretto · 07/06/2017 09:39

I love it.

AncientOva · 07/06/2017 10:00

I know a lovely Sam who is in her forties.

It makes me think of Grace Kelly & Bing Crosby in the wonderful musical film 'High Society'.

grufallosfriend · 07/06/2017 12:24

Very dated, it's a no from me.

But a little Samantha isn't going to care whether our generation might find it 'dated'. She's going to love having a cool underused name! Not only won't she have to add her initials to her name but she'll have a very fashionable name as an adult, a very unmum like name!

HouseworkIsASin10 · 07/06/2017 12:35

I love Sam for a girl.

squoosh · 07/06/2017 16:01

I really like the name Samantha a lot.

squoosh · 07/06/2017 16:01

It makes me think of Grace Kelly & Bing Crosby in the wonderful musical film 'High Society'.

Wan't her character called Tracy?

29Palms · 07/06/2017 16:14

I first encountered Samantha as the character in 'Bewitched' back in the 1960s, so it doesn't have an 80s association for me. Perhaps people who watched the programme as kids remembered the name when they had their own children?

Anyway I don't think it should be cast aside as "dated". It's a pretty but adaptable name, and not ten-a-penny these days.

SettlingOrLucky · 07/06/2017 16:18

Dated but i like outside the normal box naming.

I liked jillian and melanie when i was preg. I l8ked that they were normal and pretty but would be unusual for generation.

AntiopeofThemyscira · 07/06/2017 16:18

I know a 7 year old Samantha.

I'm too reminded of Samantha in SATC though.

MikeUniformMike · 07/06/2017 16:21

I thought it was dated but it is an old name and is still popular.
Makes me think of Samantha Cameron or
a woman in the 42-52 age group.
