I love Sam. I know one short for Samuel.

lovemyname · 07/06/2017 12:59

I love Sam but I'm biased Grin

My Sam is a 'proper' Sam as in not short for anything else!
He's now early teens and I believe there's only one other Sam in his school. There are none in my younger kid's primary school at all.

sunnyday1976 · 07/06/2017 13:12

I've got a Sam, not short for anything, and I still love it. Never met another Sam that wasn't a nn. He just gets slightly annoyed when people call him Samuel/Samson!

Good comments so far!
My son is Jonny, just Jonny, so I'd probably just use Sam without a longer version too

I also have a Samuel / Sam / Sammy while I can still get away with it.

Never met a Sam I don't like Smile

I've found that these days Sam is a boys name again - there seem to be very few new Samantha's around, whereas in the 60s, 70s and 80s it was either for old men or girls/young women.

Having said that, I do think that Isambard with Sam as a nn is fab - would love that rather than Samuel or Samson!

PacificDogwod · 07/06/2017 22:48

Oooh, Isambard must be due a revival, surely!

Is it too late to rename my Sam? He's only 13... Grin

Completely agree, Isambard is wonderful! I'd never have got it past DH though.

Love Sam! My 4yo is a Sam and he's the best Grin Although he is Samuel on BC.

OwlsinTowls · 10/06/2017 14:49

I think it's soft and handsome, simple... Sam Winchester! Grin
Also makes me think of Samwise Gamgee.

Apparently I used to have an imaginary friend called/used to ask people to call me Sam. Not my name.

insancerre · 10/06/2017 14:58

I have a Sam in his late 20s
His full name is Samuel but nobody calls him that

Elvisrocks · 10/06/2017 16:18

I really like it too.
