Is Megan dated?

Not pregnant yet (DS is only 3 months old!) but might be TTC in the foreseeable future. I liked the name Megan before even getting pregnant with my son then went off it but suddenly loving it again.

My worry is that it's could be perceived as dated for some reason? Do you know any young Megan's?

What's wrong with being 'dated'? At least she won't have to share her name with many others.

You could say the same for Sharon or Wayne but I don't see many people jumping to use those.

Not dated. I see Megan as a classic that like other classics goes in and out of popularity but there are always babies called it and it's a familiar name. I do love Megan

17caterpillars1mouse · 21/05/2017 09:07

Just to add there were 739 Megan's born in 2015 so not overly overly popular but still well used

Megan is a lovely name. I can think of three, aged about 40, 30 and 10. So I think it does stand the test of time.

Swearwolf · 21/05/2017 09:13

I feel like it's very much a name for my generation, so yes I feel it's dated. I do know three little Megans all under 3 though, so it may be making a comeback. It definitely doesn't stand out as weird though.

PolarBearGoingSomewhere · 21/05/2017 09:17

If you love it, use it!

I know a five year old Megan and it really suits her. Her family call her Meg or Megs.

Teardropexplodes · 21/05/2017 09:17

There are quite a lot of girls called Megan in my boys' school years. DS1 is 15 - loads; DS2 11 - just one I think.
I don't think of it as outdated. I think it's lovely. If my friend said she'd called her baby Megan I wouldn't think she had chosen badly at all.

I'm born in '94 and there have always been a few in my age, However, I also know a few born in the 2000s and some in the 70s.

I think it is a name that peaked in the 90s but has been used in various decades, so no I don't think it is dated.

GenerationYmember · 21/05/2017 11:20

Forgot to add, i love the name Megan, timeless, easy to spell and pronounce. If I am ever lucky enough to have a daughter, Megan is a name that I would use.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 21/05/2017 11:22

DS's friend is a Megan. She's nearly 17.

grufallosfriend · 21/05/2017 15:46

Sharon and Wayne are not only dated. There are many classics that are dated but still nice.

Marlboroandmalbec34 · 21/05/2017 18:01

It's on my list. I adore Meggie Smile anyone else remember thornbirds???

CricketRuntAndRashers · 21/05/2017 18:03

Love it!

I tried to convince my mother to use it for my little (half) sister Grin

OpalTree · 21/05/2017 20:10

I think of it as a classic Welsh name. I like it.

MotherOfDragons27 · 21/05/2017 20:29

My eldest is called Megan, she's 9. There is a Megan in both my other children's preschool classes, so one is 4 and one is 3. I think it's one of those classic names that never dates to be honest.

buttercup54321 · 21/05/2017 20:42

Very pretty. I know 3. Aged 25 12 and 20 months.

Charlottenburg · 22/05/2017 19:50

Yes.

Brandnewstart · 22/05/2017 20:09

I know two Megans. One is 6 and the other is 4. Both have Welsh connections. I think it is a beautiful name. It has the added bonus of being the name of the drummer in The White Stripes Smile

heron98 · 23/05/2017 09:30

I am a 36 year old Megan, I like to think it's timeless

Nicky2468 · 23/05/2017 09:31

It's a lovely name - great choice 🙂
