Abigail or Eleanor

I'm a nn sort of person, so would get Abi or Nel.

I slightly prefer Eleanor to Abigail, but slightly prefer Abi to Nel! Have a doubled barrelled surname that sounds like Dalton-Pike.

Eleanor is lovely! I don't like Abigail, tbh.

You could use El instead of Nel? Love Eleanor.

alltouchedout · 17/05/2017 21:37

Eleanor, but not Nell. Ellie?

chipsnmayo · 17/05/2017 21:46

Abigail by a country mile, classic name underused these days.

bringonyourwreckingball · 17/05/2017 22:53

I love Eleanor but DH didn't. We have an Abigail and I love it. Fairly unusual (3 in a 3 form entry middle class school). As nicknames she gets abi, abbey, abs and Aberdeen which goes to show you can't control the name stuff

FfionFlorist · 18/05/2017 10:44

Eleanor is my strong preference. Much prefer Ellie to Abbie too. But Abigail isn't horrible.

daisypond · 18/05/2017 10:54

Eleanor is lovely - classic. I like nn Nell (double L), better than Ellie.

Abigail is nice as long as it's not shortened to Abi/Abby/Abbie etc, which I think are horrid and overused.

eleanor1989 · 18/05/2017 10:58

Blush well I would be biased wouldn't I?

Only a few people called me Ellie when I was younger. I prefer Eleanor. I have a close friend called Eleanor and she has always been known by Ellie and couldn't ever see her as an Eleanor

Marcipex · 18/05/2017 11:07

Eleanor, Len is a nice nn.

Never known a nice adult Abigail , or indeed Abigayle, sorry .

FreeNiki · 21/05/2017 01:30

Eleanor

Abigail is too popular and breaks down in to a big ail.

FreeNiki · 21/05/2017 01:35

Never known a nice adult Abigail

Me either. Also Abigail Williams from the Salem witch trials: she was one of the first accusers in the trials and that caused the arrest and imprisonment of more than 150 innocent people suspected of witch craft and several deaths.

CakeAhoy · 21/05/2017 01:49

Oh my god it's finally happened!

My name has been slated on mn as horrible.

It's like being christened Grin

FreeNiki · 21/05/2017 02:09

Dont worry Ive seen my name slated.

Shrugs.

ScarlettFreestone · 21/05/2017 02:29

How lovely to have a baby names thread where both the names are gorgeous!

Either of these are just lovely.

17caterpillars1mouse · 21/05/2017 09:10

Abigail.

I love Nell but think you'd have better luck with Helen / Helena. I think an Eleanor would get called Ellie by most

BendydickCuminsnatch · 21/05/2017 10:10

I know that is awful but Abigail is less likely to have disparaging rhymes.

Flabby Abby
Crabby Abby
to name but 2 real life examples

abigail makes me think of toads make me actually lol Grin

I like both names but Eleanor/Nel definitely wins my vote. Bit more edgy. Ellie is insipid though.
