Hi,
I am due very soon and myself and DH are unsure as whether to name the baby Hannah or Melissa! Any ideas?

I much prefer Melissa as a name, but hate the inevitable Mel.

Hannah is bland and stodgy. It sounds like a buxom scullery-maid. Anna much nicer.

spacecowboy99 · 12/05/2017 06:12

They weren't on our list but are both nice. I probably lean towards Hannah. Do consider the surname suggestion. One will probably flow better, this helped us rule a name out as it was too 'rhymey' with our name.

There's one Melissa in ds primary school. Definitely not many around though. Marissa is lovely.

CocoLoco87 · 12/05/2017 06:29

Love Hannah, not so keen on Melissa

bigchris · 12/05/2017 06:35

Agree with super Eagle
I don't like Melissa but love Hannah

Hannah! Melissa is a bit dated imo

mrsnec · 12/05/2017 07:44

I like them both and I have a 2 year old Melissa. Nobody has called her Mel yet. She is Missy or Lissa if its shortened.

I had people suggesting Marissa too and I liked that as well but I don't like its meaning as much. Although it also would have been apt for us.

I agree with those who say use the one that works best with the middle name and surname.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 12/05/2017 08:41

Melissa/ Lissy

GirlcalledJames · 12/05/2017 11:07

Hannah!

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 12/05/2017 11:12

Looking up the meanings:
Hannah - favour or grace
Melissa - bee
Marissa - 'of the sea'

Any theme you prefer?

mum2be2boys · 12/05/2017 15:10

I like both names, but prefer Hannah.

I do like the nickname Lissa for Melissa (as suggested above) I haven't heard of it before :-)

CricketRuntAndRashers · 12/05/2017 15:20
  1. Melissa
  2. Marissa
  3. Hannah

But they're all fine :)

cookielove · 13/05/2017 17:37

Hannah

Rockaby · 14/05/2017 10:52

Hannah (or Anna, which I prefer). I'm not keen on Melissa.

Maryam1360 · 30/05/2017 20:34

Thank you all for your help. We ended up with Melissa (baby did not have a name for the first couple of days :) ). This thread really helped us make up our minds.

Thanks for updating. I think Melissa is a pretty and currently underused name. Good choice Smile
